03/02/06 FOX Poll: Most Oppose Port Deal; Republicans Lose Ground Thursday, March 02, 2006 By Dana Blanton PHOTOS
Most Americans oppose allowing a Dubai company to run some U.S. ports, even as a majority understands the U.S. would continue to control port security, according to a new FOX News poll. One in four sees the United Arab Emirates as a strong ally, but most either disagree or are unsure.
In addition, the poll shows Republicans have lost ground on the issue of terrorism, and by a wide margin voters now think it would be better for the country if Democrats win control of Congress in this years midterm election.
For only the second time of his presidency, the poll finds that President Bushs overall job approval rating has fallen below 40 percent today 39 percent of Americans say they approve and a 54 percent majority disapproves. Late last year the presidents approval hit a record-low of 36 percent (8-9 November 2005).

I don't believe in polls, I believe in votes. If we decided everything by polls, John Kerry would be president today.

It's not reneging.
They purchased P&O, not the United States government, therefore we are not reneging on anything.
They are no more entitled to operate or oversee American ports than they are to own Boeing, and we are no more obliged to agree to hand over control of our vital national assets than we were compelled to allow CNOOC to buy out Unocal.

That BLOWS UP your side's excuse then, though...that NOBODY IN DUBAI/UAE WILL DO ANY BUSINESS WITH ISRAEL OR AN ISRAELI FIRM.

I'm mad at Bush because the man doesn't know when to fight an issue. Fight for SS reform, too hard, fight against campaign finance reform, no, fight to secure our borders, even after 9-11 when Bush could have drafted every 18 year old boy given him a gun and stood them shoulder to shoulder across the whole border and the public would have loved it because they were afraid, still didn't do it. He will not fight for any conservative ideals, yet he'll go to bat against an overwhelmingly unpopular measure with no upside. Even if he wins some company just gets to move into a terminal. Forget the issue its pointless, a small tiny issue that will not impact anything, yet Bush fights for it anyway. Its almost like Bush got confused and thinks public opinion is scored like golf lowest score wins.
Hes a pussy when it comes to defending republicans, but he'll fight democrats tooth and nail when it comes to defending some two bit port deal with Arabs, during a time when most Americans think Arabs want to kill us. I used to think Bush wasn't stupid, but with the way he plays politics he can't be smart

Follow the money. And you didn't have time to look at the companies. I knew you wouldn't. Carry on with your 1/2 truths.

I like Sean Hannity but he poo poo'd the news stating Israeli's weren't allowed to leave the ships that do trade with the UAE when in port. I'm not sure how many would want to get off anyway. The entire Middle East has this mentality, like the way blacks were treated here many years ago.

Well then. Are you aware that DP World is controlled by Ofer Brothers Group? Did you also know that Zim Intergrated Shipping is also controlled by Ofer Brothers? Zim gave the all clear on their own company. If you poke around these businesses do you know what name continually comes up? Particularly Umar, Raleh, Khaled What do those three names have in common...bin laden is their last name. You need to go back to the drawing board. You are fantasizing

A
TERMINAL is a "vital national asset" ?
And BTW, for the I can't keep track of how many times, but it must be in the thousands, by now, time, DPW IS NOT GOING TO TAKE OVER CONTROL OF OPERATIONS , NOR THE OVERSEEING OF ANY AMERICAN PORT!
To: sinkspur
"Why did Zim, an Israeli shipping company, endorse the Dubai ports deal?"
Probably for same reason Zim Shipping broke it's WTC lease one week before 911 and move out.
