Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

As long as there is give and take, the people have an opportunity to see the arguments. Once give and take stops, we're fully "subjects."
I like this guy alot - have more respect for him than any other Senator that comes to mind. I think his style is to stay one layer behind leadership - "the mind behind the front man." I like him much better than Hatch (and I generally like Hatch). McConnell is an unsung hero.

The President intends to nominate Kenneth L. Wainstein, of Virginia, to be an Assistant Attorney General and upon appointment, designate him as Assistant Attorney General for National Security. Mr. Wainstein currently serves as the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. He previously served as Chief of Staff at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Prior to that, Mr. Wainstein served as the FBI's General Counsel. Earlier in his career, he served as a federal prosecutor for twelve years. Mr. Wainstein received his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and his JD from the University of California at Berkley.The President intends to nominate Jonann E. Chiles, of Arkansas, to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Services Corporation, for the remainder of a three-year term expiring July 13, 2008.

President's budget in 2005 and 2006 did not include unding for activity in Iraq or Afghanistan. This year, 50 billion ("placeholder") IS in the budget - but "everyone knows significantly more will be needed." This is not responsible budgeting, says Sarbanes.
Ho goes on the the "cost" of fixing the Alternative Minimum Tax. That is, he will be advocating tax increase on some category of tax payer.
