ALBANY, N.Y. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday that President Bush's chief political strategist Karl Rove "spends a lot of time obsessing about me."
The former first lady and potential presidential contender was reacting during a radio interview to a new book quoting Karl Rove as saying she will be the 2008 Democratic nominee for president,
"He spends more time thinking about my political future than I do," Clinton said, noting that Rove and other White House aides have met regularly with her possible opponents in November's 2006 Senate race.
The junior Senator from New York said she believed Rove, Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman and other Republicans are focusing on her to divert attention from Republican problems as the 2006 congressional elections approach.
"Karl Rove is a brilliant strategist. So, if I were thinking about this," Clinton told WROW-AM radio in Albany, "I'd say why are they spending so much time talking about me?"
"What they're hoping is that all of their missteps, which are now numbering in the hundreds, are going to somehow be overlooked because people, instead of focusing on the '06 election, will jump ahead and think about the next one," Clinton said.
Rove made no immediate comment.

"Paranoia the destoryer! And it goes like this!" - The Kinks
Watch out Karl...The last man who obsessed about Hillary went on a one-way drive to a picnic at Ft Marcy.
Considering all the political posturing Mrs. Clinton has done, I do not believe this is humanly possible.
Did she say it with a straight face?
Exactly! What's not to obsess about? She's the total package! (S)
Rove had given some signals that 2004 was his last election, but he has apparently backed off of that some since.
And another lame retort from the Senator. She at once attempts to be both witty and royally dismissive, failing at both.
See why this woman doesn't worry me in a campaign?
For example, Ken made this comment a few weeks ago. Short, polite, but deadly arrogant. Her response? An attempt to moderate her tone. LOL Whom was thinking of whom Hill? That hasn't worked so well, so WEEKS later she answers with a weak retort?
Don't flatter yourself Hill, Karl was responding to a questions.
This verifies what we thought about her back when she tried to pretend that a VRWC was behind Bill's affair. She is a paranoid individual.
Rove is just remembering that last pig roast in college. Or was it Pig Night at Sigma Nu ?
Given the senator's recent poll numbers, she IS Rove's dream come true. But certainly not the way she fantasizes.
I hope Rove continues label her as the front runner and talk about her all the time. As long as she is the face of the Democrats it reminds people of how much they cannot tolerate the thought of her as a future President. It also ratchets up the language of those who decide to vie for the nomination. Just today, Bill Richardson was talking about how governors would be better suited for the job.
Do you think it's a little obsessive and paranoid of her (not to mention egomaniacal) to imagine that Karl Rove spends a lot of time thinking about her?
Karl has already decided that Hillary will be the dimmiecrat candidate in '08 and is now busy picking the next Republican president.
Hillary's campaign theme should read " DEVIOUS SCAGS WHO WILL SAY ANTHING TO BE PRESIDENT"
Wasn't that Bill's campaign theme?
I know it isn't what she meant, but the mental picture of Rove drooling over a wrinkled picture of Her Heinous sends shivers up my spine. I know there are weird kinks out there but that one is a little over the top.
Don't flatter yourself, you fat porker.
"He wants me."
Now I must go gargle for actually putting words in her mouth. EEEEEEWWWWWWWWW.
Would you mind if I added "socialist b!tch" to your accurate description?
