Don Knotts makes a funny cameo as a randy shoe salesman in Move Over Darling, with Doris Day..

Small part in the film, funny though.

Oh no. I'm very sorry to hear this. He was one in a Gazillion. Our prayers for his family and friends.

I remember them all my life as well. I think every CBS affiliate in NC must run the show either immediately before or immediately after their newscast. Must be a law or something in this state. One that I do not mind. I could watch them every day and never tire of them. Will be interesting to hear the radio shows that broadcast here in NC on Monday morning to hear what they have to say about it. Back in the mid 90s UNCC even offered a course on the Andy Griffith Show.

I liked it when he was "in charge". Barney & his posse.

I remember Don Knotts in one of "Man in the Street" skits vividly. The question was "How do you beat the heat?" (no small matter in a sweltering New York City summer). Don, shaking as always, explained that he said to himself over and over "I am very cold." Finally Steve asked "Are you sure you're not nervous?". Don answered (you're probably ahead of me): "N-no, j-just cold."

Otis, when Barney was testing the reflexes of his potential deputy:

"Why'd he throw that tomato at me, Andy?"

I remember those Man in the Street interviews. Don't know who laughed harder, us kids or our 80+ great-grandpa who hardly spoke any English, but he sure got a kick out of tv comedy.
"Sir, are you nerv---"
"Noo!"
(IIRC, Don Knotts would often pronounce it "noo" instead of "no.")

RIP, dear man, and thanks for all the laughter.

My favorite was when he and Floyd were kidnapped by the women prison escapees. That one still brings tears to my eyes. I also like the episode when he meets the Darlings for the first time and has to dress up like the bride. :)

You go read any book you want on the subject of child discipline and you'll find every one of them is in favor of bud-nipping.

RIP, Mr. Knotts.

Rest in Peace. I was just a kid when Don Knotts first came on the Andy Griffith Show as Barney Fife. I thought he was the funniest thing I'd ever seen...still do.

Didn't really like his woman chasing in his earlier years, but other than that he was my absolute favorite comedian. Particularly with Tim Conway in "The Private Eyes". Saw it about 10 times back in 1980.

Though I still watch The Andy Griffith Show and Three's Company on TV Land, I can remember seeing his movie No Time For Sargeants many times on TBS years ago, and my brother and I saw a double bill of The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again at a mall theater when we were about 10 years old.

Rest In Peace Don.
