"Mayberry" brought so many smiles to so many people. Even today, I look at a rerun that I may have seen several times before, and it still brings a smile and a laugh again.

RIP Don Knotts. I had always hoped to see him reprise Barney one more time. Thought a great storyline would be to have a visiting Deputy Sheriff from North Carolina come up north to say, Hill Street Station. What a boatload of possibilities a good scriptwriter could have done with that!

I think the funniest skit I ever saw was when Barney was
had a date with some babe, and they were sitting on the sofa
and she took off his deputy cap and started running her fingers through his hair and it was LONG, I mean LONG,
and she kept teasing it up until it stood about six or eight
inches above his head, it was so incongruous for ol Barn.

Rest in peace Don, you did good son.

I remember the first time I saw him in "No Time For Sergeants" with Andy Griffith of course. He really was a genius.

That one still makes my sides hurt laughing. Any prior military can appreciate that movie especially the commodes. He was part of a dying breed of actors who proved to us all you could be funny without being crude. One of his time who made TV something the entire family could watch together. He'll be missed by many along with the era in entertainment he was a part of. RIP Deputy.

I grew up in a town just like Mayberry. (Carrol, Nebraska)

We all sat around the only TV in the neighborhood to watch every episode. That was America the way it was supposed to be.

It chokes me up to think it almost was....

I first remember him as the nervous guy on the Steve Allen Show in the fifties.

Oh my, yes. What sad news.

"Nip it! Nip it!"

RIP Don, you'll be missed.

No, Don Knotts was a Democrat like Any Griffith. He was one of those old-school Democrats who continued to vote staight-line Democrat even though the party became dominated by the hard left.

Nevertheless, this news is a darn shame.

One of my all time favorite comedians. Every time I watch him I laugh - what a precious gift! The old Andy Griffith shows (black & white) will go down in television history as one of the funniest shows ever.

I loved the one where he tried to rehabilitate some hardened criminals they were housing in the jail - he bought them a leather craft kit, a metalcraft kit & a Mr. Potato head......the crooks ended up breaking out of the jail with the metalworking kit. LOL!!!!!

Yes, he created a character who will literally live forever. Barney Fife really did make it rough for small town cops. I remember we used to yell, "Barney" at ours when he drove by.

Np Time For Sergeants was one of the few movies that made me laugh out loud.

"especially the commodes"

When I saw it they literally had to stop the movie there was so much laughing. It went on for minutes before they started the movie again.

Another favorite of mine is the cameo he had with, I think, Phil Silvers, in It's a Mad...World. Classic Don Knotts.
