Initially opposed, but, after doing my own research and reading Freeper's research- I give grudging support.
I also give the White House an unqualified F for still being MIA in the communications war.
The nanosecond after Huckary issued their dire warning, the White House should have been on this full force with the facts.
After the story was printed last November, someone in the White House should have realized the political import.
Instead, they wait until there is a raging inferno and then they fight it with dixie cups of water.

LOL The Dems are so desperate and hateful they will jump with both feet into anything that looks like a way to smack Pres. Bush. Not a good base to operate from. But it's a tremendous advantage to those who oppose them if you can resist the temptation to confront them directly. The President seems to have that kind of temperance.

The Dem and RINO pols who have jumped into this have effectively hung an IED around their own necks. Unless the opportunity is wasted this "issue" should greatly increase conservative gains in Nov.

Thanks for the post Jim. I haven't studied it in depth at all but I lean slightly in favor of the deal.

Oppose.

No matter what my 82 year old Republican Dad says, I don't think that the USA should hire any Nation to provide any services to This Nation.

A private company has a board of directors to hold accountable. Who do we hold accountable when the service is provided by a Nation?

If there should be litigation, how is that handled when the litigation is against an entire Nation? Litigation against a private company would be one thing, but against an entire Nation would be . . . WAR? Or would the 'fine print' make it impossible for the USA to hold the UAE Nation accountable?

The entire situation smells like last week's fish.

""At first, it was reported that the deal involved only six ports but DP World's Web site says it involves 21 ports, from Portland, Me., to Corpus Christi, Texas."

And who 'reported' there were six? Not the White House.

Supported from the beginning.

I want to see our vital military base toehold maintained in the ME (Dubai).....and I want to see a ME country (Dubai) have a capitalistic investment in our country.

Reciprocal checks and balances for the benefit of each country.

I really don't think that Arabs would invest $7 billion to pull off a terrorist attack.

But maybe the Arabs/Muslims are thinking they're paying $7 billion to purchase the right to take over the USA for Islam.

It doesn't have to be a "terrorist attack" if the Muslims pay their way into the Country via 21 ports. A subtle takeover, like the frog in the pan of water set on a stove and the heat turned up, the USA will not notice the takeover until it's too late.

I'm not sure it's not already bordering on too late as evidenced by the name calling by TV commentators against those who oppose Bush on this issue.

Take over of what? Do you think that Achmed and Habib are going to be running the forklifts? About all that's changing is the stationary in the head office.

Support. If someone out there is going to smuggle a nuke (RDD/Anthrax/etc) into the United States, they'll land it in Mexico and give a coyote $500 to take it over the border. They're not going to spend seven billion dollars for the right to manage operations at a number of places guarded by DHS.

OPPOSED.

I just can't think of a really bad downside to it.

Wow. I feel like I just climbed out of a cave and the President's PR machine has zapped everyone who stayed outside with the common sense zapper gun.

In my view, the President is paying off political debts to Arabs with checks our rear ends are going to pay for. Does the UAE allow bibles in country? Can Christians freely worship there? Has the UAE sent troops to fight in 'Stan or 'Raq? Is the UAE standing up in Arab League meetings denouncing terrorism and the proxy-abuse of the Palestians?

Maybe we could sell some port operations to some Colombian outfits. I also hear the Politburo is interested in reforming if we'll let them run our ports. This reminds me of letting recovered felons run your bank or pre-school.

Sarcasm aside, this is about common sense to me. Oh the tangled web we weave . . . .

"The Pres should be promoting American business not foreign."

Actually no U.S. company bid on the contract...no U.S. company is even in this business. DP World, who has been working with our Armed Force for years now, simple won the bid.
