There is an area, in this world of ours, called the Middle East.
From the dawn of recorded history, there have been wars and fighting over there.
At one time, long ago, the seat of culture and world power, was situated there and some religions believe that that is where GOD first created and placed mankind.
Long ago, in the early part of the 20th century, the people who lived there were pretty poor. But they were soon surprised to learn that under the sand, there was black smelly stuff. This black gunck is what we call oil. And oil is a very valuable commodity.
Parts of the Middle East have been friends to America. Other parts have not been.
One nation, called Israel, is a democracy and America's friend.
After the Sha of Iran was deposed, Israel was the ONLY country in that region, that was and is our friend.
Two nations, Iran and Iraq have fought many wars. Neither was America's friend, but we did back Iraq,against Iran. The USSR backed Iran.
Then, Iraq became very bad. The man who ran it, Saddam Hussein was a VERY bad man. We waged war against him and Iraq twice and we took him out of power. Now, we are trying to help Iraq become a stable, free, friendly nation.
In 2001, 19 men tried to hurt America and Americans. They were members of a group called al Qaeda. Their leader was in Afghanistan. Our president sent our military to Afghanistan. Though we haven't completely gotten that country all quite and peaceful, yet, we shall.
Iran is run by some very bad men. These bad men want to destroy Israel, kill all of the Jews, and take over Iraq. But Iran is bordered by Afghanistan and Iraq; two nations we are helping to be free, calm, settled, and friendly to America.
Do you know what I scissors looks like? If you put your finger between the blades and close the scissors, you will cut yourself. That will hurt.
Iraq and Afghanistan are like the two blade of a pair of scissors.
America wants the Middle East to be a calm, peaceful, free area, where nations don't engage in war and where those who do, change. We don't want Iran to have nukes. We don't want Iran to nuke Israel. So, our president has sent our military to Iraq and to Afghanistan and if those very bad men in Iran don't stop being such bad men, he just may have to send troops and/or bombs to Iran.
That's the end of your bedtime story; now close your eyes ands go to sleep.

A bunch of crazies filled with misguided politics destroyed that mosque not "ISLAM". As to you being an atheist I didnt comment on that. However as a Christian I must respect the individual dignity of HUman life and freedom and so that has to be incorporated in my World view. Whether there Jew, Christian, Muslim, etc. There has to a over riding social and moral ethic to our conduct Nationally and politically or we come as bad as the Facist and the terrorist in the end.

Honestly in my heart I knew they would start blowing up their own mosques. Why does it surprise some of you so much that they would take it to this level?

Afterall, it's always the minority fringe of any movement that actually does the violence. The rest just support it. This is the same old stuff that always happens, and you excusing it makes you look bad.

And I'm not Muslim, either. But I'm also not some narrow-minded skinhead, just randomly hating every single person in a particular demographic.
