Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administrations decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.
We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The Presidents leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, lets do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, lets make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.

Wow! Carter AND mclame--now I know the Pres. is really on the wrong side of this issue.
The problem is not the fact that it's not being managed by a US company; the problem is that in the middle of the War on Terror our ports are being handed over to an Islamic nation that produces many terrorists!
It doesn't involve a "bid." It involves a Dubai company purchasing a British company that already owns the rights.
Everyone calm down and take a deep breath. There's obviously more hype than information out there right now.
Let's wait for more information and not jump off of a cliff.
So far the most compelling arguments against this deal are that both Jimmy Carter and John McCain are in favor of it. My immediate reaction is "this is BAD."
I want more information before I make up my mind.
Ultimately, however, if GWB, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and Condi Rice say "trust us" I'm going to go with them.
Got my armor on...:-)
Are you as dumb as your posts appear, or are you just stiring the pot?
It's an election, dimbulb; since Bush isn't running again, they HAVE to have a job, understand?
Only when the U.S. can manage the production of their oil fields, can they be allowed to manage the operation of our sea ports.
I mistakenly wrote contract when I sould have wrote company.
No US company put in a bid to purchase this portion of P&O.
Singapore and Dubai battled it out.
From left to right...McStain, Bush-43, Carter, Bill Klinton (Bush 43's NEW "Brother")...
According to FOX this morning there are no US companies that do this sort of work....any FReepers want to start a new business?
I have to admit that I am a little nervous with Carter and McCain back Bush on this....
This deal worries me too, but I do find it ironic that Schumer and HRC, among other Democrats, are coming out against it. I bet if Bush had opposed it, then they'd be accusing him of racial profiling.
I was actually on the fence about this one, wanting to give the President a chance to express his side of things before coming to my final opinion, but now that Carter supports it...I mean, when is the last time Carter was ever right about anything!
Carter, McLame? Am I missing something here?
First Jimmy Carter, now John McCain. HELLO? French Kisses of Death!!!!
let's see where Rudy goes on this, I think I know the answer.
its all out war within the ranks now folks.
So, what do you want him to do? Nationalize the ports and airlines? WOW, we could be just like a communist country then.
Check out the howler......
Headline says McCain backs Bush. Story says he backs the Senators and Governors who oppose Bush and want the sale put in limbo and have a full investigative process before allowing it.
