I'm working on a piece of fiction and I can't seem to find this using Google. I'm sure some our gun enthusiasts would know.
What's the standard rifle of the North Korean Army?
Thanks.

Looks like the AK-47. They're the favorite of totalitarian regimes worldwide. :-)
From Armed to the Teeth:
The training of the future soldiers of the Great Leader begins when North Koreans reach the age of 14. ... The teenagers learn how to handle and shoot the AK-47, and some other basic weapons.

Only if the guns run Linux.
Also, some small .25 semi-autos can be used as pipes to smoke grass. You just open the action, then put the dope in the chamber. Light it and suck on the barrel. It's best to remove the round that's in the chamber, though.

AKM
Not the earlier AK-47 - which was not in production for all that long.
Actually, what most everyone calls an AK-47 is almost always an AKM

Regarding North Korean army's standard "weapon of choice"-- more than likely, it's listed in a Jane's reference. Probably not a "burp-gun" or AK-47 variant, because the KORCOMs use human-wave tactics that require minimal individual fire. Perhaps a form of carbine, depending on what surplus China provides. On 'tother hand, pitchforks and trench-tools might do as well. When the Dear Leader strikes, be very afraid.

probably the AKM, RPK and various AK versions. I'm sure there are pics of the Nk guards that would tell.
To: birbear
That would be a Daewoo .223. The civilian version is called a Daewoo D100, but I'm not sure of the technical name for the select fire version used by the military.
I have two D100s; and they are excellent rifles. Got rid of my AR's because the Daewoos were so much better.
