Why would he need to do that? The Chicoms and Soviets already have a stranglehold over that part of the world. They will work together, however, they will sacrifice the Islamic world (and maby N. Korea) to get their ends.

The author states that the Western civilizations us included, using all kinds of methods "imposed" more or less the Western style of democracy from political stand point to the economical one.
Also the author said that the Western policies over the years all over the Globe will come back and haunt us.
Best case scenario...So called Palestine issue; we strong armed Israel to cede Gaza and other territories, to bring democracy and stability to the region. What we have got is a Democratic election of who?...Hamas, the number one terrorist group on the State Department list.

Me thinks that not every nation on the face of the Earth is ready and capable for a true democratic process not to mention full freedom of the common man, like we enjoy here in the good ol' USofA.
Total freedom and full democratic political process comes at a price; not every nation on Earth can handle it!...when imposed it can wreak havoc in a society not ready for the big step.
The Arab dominated world, is still ruled by religious believes and tribe chiefs/rulers; it has been like that for centuries. The West riding on a white horse saying to them..."now you are free of "oppressors" and do as we do. It will never happened; they are way to deep entrenched in their century's old customs to change overnight.
So, why I am not surprised that Russia, France, Spain and Venezuela invited Hamas at the dinner table to talk. They were dully, democratically and openly elected(as we wished) to be the leaders of Palestine.

You didn't notice, I see, that the author completely ignores such facts as Russia's birth rates ( which are far lower than America's !), as well as lumping America in with a disparity group of other nations, all just called "THE WEST"; not to mention Russia's severe problems, problems of their own making.
No matter WHAT we did with the "PALESTINE ISSUE", somebody would be screaming blue murder about how DREADFUL it is. This IS a read herring, BTW.

Also you had mentioned that the Palestinian issue is a red Herring; why is that?
