Member of Marines not 'sort of person UW wanted to produce'
The University of Washington's student senate rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of "Black Sheep Squadron" fame amid concerns a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school.
Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government's meeting last week, said she "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."

Is Rachel Corrie, AKA "Saint Pancake", the sort of person UW wanted to produce?
Right the kind of guy who did his damndest to win WW II is not the kind of guy to emulate
How much better it would be if they got the 2 bone smugglers from 'Boneback Mounting' to represent all that stands for bending over and taking it, to represent the Latte drinking croud at the University of Washington.
*ssholes!!!!!

Appalling !
I'm actually at a loss for words.
BLOOD..... BOILING!!!!!!!!!!
Oh,little girl.....how much there is for you to learn about the world and about unkind, ambitious men like Hitler,Stalin,Mao,Tojo.......
Paging Jill Edwards..Paging Jill Edwards....your brain has been found in a Kmart parking lot in Idaho.
(Godwin's Law does not apply to the above statement)
I'll bet she really supports the troops though, and don't you dare call her unpatriotic!
The very fact that they have the freedom to insult Col. Boyington in such an arrogant manner is tacit testimony to the success of his actions.
Otherwise, these dim bulbs might be wishing each other "Ohayo gozimus" in the morning.
I wonder how they felt about a swiftboat liar becoming the leader of the free world.
I would like to suggest to the university that they present a White Feather to graduate, to be warn proudly on their coat.
"Now, this is the kind of peace-loving 'man' we need to produce more of!"
I don't even know how to respond???
It brings tears to my eyes and makes me wonder what the hell I was fighting for? Then I just remember my FReepers and fellow like thinking Americans. I wonder if this girl even realizes (or ever will) that people like Pappy, fought for her right to be an A$$hole!
Semper Fidelis
This rot has gotten into all public universities and colleges. It was starting when I was at UT Austin back in the late '70's. A conservative speaker was ALWAYS shouted down by angry leftists who screeched that to air a conservative opinion or fact was propaganda and any attempts to make them shut up and let the conservative speaker talk was a violation of the leftists first amendment rights. I remember when Dr. Kissinger came to campus to give a speech and ten to fifteen of these idiots let him speak for 2 minutes and then started screaming in unison. When the campus cops were summoned thay did not shut up, but started screaming louder and went limp, forcing the cops to drag them out of the auditorium. As usual, some ACLU lawyer threatened to sue UT for violating the students rights and the administration caved and apologized to the protestors.
This was during the last semester before I graduated in May 1979. If it had happened in the previous year, I would have transferred to A&M or Tech to finish my degree.
I would like to suggest to the university that they present a White Feather to graduates, to be warn proudly on their coat.
Just unbelievable. This is also not the kind of university my stellar students would want to associate with.
