Okay, FReepers, intellectual honesty forces me to say it -- DICK CHENEY SHOULD RESIGN!
DFU commentary | 2-13-06 | Doug from Upland

Posted on 02/13/2006 8:26:25 PM PST by doug from upland

As many of you know, I have been a big supporter of this president. As commander in chief and one who has a clear and resolute vision of the war we are fighting, I love the guy. (Yes, we should have an emergency closing of the borders until we get them under control.) It is unimaginable to think that the current group of traitorous Democrats would be in charge. We might already be using prayer rugs several times a day.

I also love Dick Cheney. He is a steadying force and invaluable asset to the administration.

Well, as much respect as I have for both of them, this latest incident involving the Vice President has to make us wonder and evaluate our political loyalty.

Cheney shot a fellow hunter, he failed to observe required safety precautions, and he didn't have a valid $7 stamp on his license to hunt quail in Texas. What is even more egregious is that he didn't immediately get on the phone to tell the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, Miami Herald, Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Minneapolis Star, etc. That is unforgivable. How can Cheney get away with that?

So let me be the first FReeper to say it publicly. It is with heavy heart that I say it. Vice President Dick Cheney should resign. From the NRA.

Sound of crickets chirping...

:P

Cheney should resign from the NRA. And Bill Clinton should register as a sexual predator.

Which reporter asked "Should Cheney Resign?"

I lost count. I think they all have asked that question at least once.

He should sign up for a hunter's safety course from the NRA and then telecast it over the main TV channels. Sort of get everyone up to speed in one shot.

Well, I can say one thing, we've come a long way since those days of oral sex in the oval office. Now we've got the OK Corral.

In any case, many people expect him to resign for his general health. Whomever steps in would be an interesting prospect for 2008.

Hey....Doug....how about Dick Cheney calls a presser and offers to resign IF Teddy Kennedy turns in his MA driver's license?

I just wish this administration would have better media sense. Of course the dingbats at DU were going to whine about whatever Cheney does, but the guys around the VP had to know how bad the whole thing sounds. We all know John Kerry could get away with cursing out SS agents and falling off his bike and the hypocrite press wouldn't lift a finger to snap a picture or describe it.

Bumper sticker idea:

TED KENNEDY'S CAR HAS KILLED MORE PEOPLE THAN DICK CHENEY'S SHOTGUN

Dick needs to stop playing with guns and get himself a late model Oldsmobile. He'll never kill anyone with that bird shot.

Ted Kennedy please come to the courtesy desk, you have a call on line 1.

Quotes on Cheney's hunting accident

Since we're talking sarcasm hope you don't mind the pile on - not quite worthy of it's own thread:

================

(AP) — Quotes on Vice President Cheney's Saturday hunting accident:

"I know that Vice President Cheney has been hunting a long time. He's an experienced veteran. But an accident with a firearm is just like an accident with a vehicle. If he looks left one time, somebody comes and crosses the center lane." — Rocky Evans, president, Quail Unlimited, Edgefield, S.C. We always stress to anybody that before you make any kind of a shot, it's incumbent upon the shooter to assess the situation and make sure it's a safe shot. Once you squeeze that trigger, you can't bring that shot back." — Mark Birkhauser, president-elect of the International Hunter Education Association.

___

"The shooter is responsible to make sure there's nobody in the way. ... When you bird hunt like that in a group or you change your plan, typically you would announce, 'Hey, hey, everybody.' When you rejoin the hunting group you would announce your presence." — Julia Dixon, spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

___

"Birds don't always get up right in front of you. A lot of times you'll just pivot and if you don't consciously know where everybody's at, that's when someone gets hurt." — Duane Harvey, president, Wisconsin Hunter Education Instructors Association.

___

"I would be proud to hunt with the vice president — cautious, but proud." — Democratic Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal.

___

"When a bird gets up, you sort of lock into this `I want to get this bird,' and for a split second you can forget what is around you." — Thomas Baumeister, head of education programs for the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

___

"Typically when you are coming back to a line, you would say, `I'm coming up,' or whatever. It was completely unbeknownst to the vice president or the other shooter that Mr. Whittington was coming back up." — Katharine Armstrong, owner of the Armstrong Ranch and witness to the accident.

___

"You can always look back at these issues and look at how to do a better job." — White House press secretary Scott McClellan, when asked if he was satisfied with the way the incident was handled.

If the media would use their heads, some good could actually come of this. This could be a good public education excercise on gun safety (since probably the better part of this country does like to hunt).

It will never happen because the media doesn't care about the public good, but a girl can dream.
