Nevada gives legalized prostitution uneasy embrace

MOUND HOUSE, Nevada (Reuters) - In a small Nevada town, a sign at the end of a poorly lighted street lined with warehouses bears an unusual message: "Warning-Sexual entertainment 300 yards ahead. If sex offends you, get out of here."

At the Bunny Ranch in Mound House, men travel many miles to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars to have sex in the only U.S. state to allow legal brothels.

Yet even in permissive Nevada, legal prostitution operates at the margins of society and, unlike other vices such as gambling and pornography, without mainstream America's embrace. The brothel owners themselves disagree whether to stay in the shadows or trumpet their services.

"No more FR?"

Gosh, no. Everyone will have the same opinion, you see, so FR would be boring. You'll get your choice, though, between a harp and a flute. Well...maybe not a flute..."There was this one time at band camp..."

>>>What religious laws of yesteryear?

Let's see, we JUST THIS MONTH repealed a law in Georgia giving the Bible tax free sale, while the other religious books paid the ole taxola.

Also, it just recently became NOT illegal for sodomy, even between a husband and a wife.

Should I go on or do you get the point? (somehow I doubt it and you will try to convince me that religion had nothing to do with laws, especially regarding sex, which I will then laugh at you)

Why is prostitution illegal?

Government pandering to people who think force should be used to impose the "morality" of some on the many.

Mainly, women want it outlawed so their husbands won't engage in it.

Having people pay money in exchange for the most intimate of human acts....

LMAO!!! As if men don't pay for it anyway! Keep tellin yourself that, ok?

Oh, and you don't pay a prostitute for sex, you pay them to shut up and go away when it's over.

What does any of that have to do with prostitution?

I don't know about that. Promoting stable family relationships is pretty much a commonplace in most societies of any size. Prostitution and adultery interfere with those relationships, so societies tend to make rules against them.

What fun would a forum be if everyone agreed, you're right. Harps would be a good non-sexual musical instrument.

Do you think many husbands have sex with prostitutes?

Imagine a man's shock if he went to one of these "businesses" and was led into a room and there was his daughter!

It's obvious you can't even keep up with your own discussion. You asked me why is prostitution illegal, I answered a carryover from religious laws of yesteryear. Then you asked SPEFICALLY "What religious laws of yesteryear? ", I answered you again.

I'm not keeping up anymore if you can't.

"As for me, I have never paid for sex, nor would I ever."

I've been married for 18 years. Boy have I paid!

Dear God at the thought. Would serve him right I guess. I'm not FOR prostitution, I'm for the freedom to choose that if someone ELSE wants it. Also for the freedom for a person to do what they want with their body.

"I've been married for 18 years. Boy have I paid!"

Really? I've found that my marriage is about a lot more than sex. The whole thing has been more than worth the cost. I guess not everyone has that kind of marriage.

In some communities fathers have no idea who their children are, and I suspect it is happening all the time. In years to come, if those communities do not start using birth control, they will breed themselves out of existence.

Illegal prostitution will wreck a neighborhood. I've seen this happen here in Rochester, NY and I bet it happens in the majority of U.S. cities. In my city, the neighborhoods where prostitution is active, there's also a correlation of drug dealing activity as well. The prostitutes will have sex with their customers in their cars, parked in neighbors driveways and on porches as well, in full view of anybody wandering by, including children. Once a neighborhood is proliferated by illegal prostitution, it's a goner for sure.

I was stationed in Germany and prostitution is legal there. They allow it only in certain restricted areas and like Nevada, the prostitutes are checked out frequently by health officials. There is some "spill-over" out of the area where prostitution is allowed, but not for more than a few blocks.

In my opinion, it's better to control this (oldest) vice and contain it in an area that's not going to hurt your community's neighborhoods and also control STD's than to ignore the problem. Ignoring the problem has wrecked alot of neighborhoods in my city.

I've always found it strange that some men who can demand huge salaries still have to pay for sex. Tells us a little more about the Peter Principle.

When I was a student at the Air War College, one of the faculty members was introduced by the Commandant as, "This is Colonel X, father of 12 children and the War College's foremost advocate of the Peter Principle."

Oh, yes. To be sure. In Las Vegas, during conventions, the brothel places run buses on the hour from the Strip. Lots of wedding rings on the guys on those buses.

As for a man finding his daughter in a whorehouse....well, that has happened, I'm sure, but it would be a rare event, I'd guess.

I included others in the mix. You may conclude that they are the greater amount if you wish.
