(CNN) -- The war crimes trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic enters its fifth tedious year Sunday, and though international interest in the tribunal has waned, it has proved a useful tool in educating Serbs.
"Its greatest reverberation is in Serbia itself," where regional media have brought the crimes to center stage by airing and reporting on the proceedings, said Edgar Chen of the Coalition for International Justice, a group that supports war crimes tribunals.
Milosevic is charged with genocide and crimes against humanity in last decade's bloody Balkans conflict, and for four years, he has dragged out judicial proceedings with his political grandstanding and health-related absences.
The U.N. Security Council established the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in 1993, and Milosevic was charged with 66 counts involving war crimes during the Balkan wars.

That's because the court hasn't been able to come to the "correct" conclusion.
I agree with you but is Saadam's trial any better? He has been in captivity since 2003, there's no end in sight for his trial.
The Nuremberg experience shows that it's possible to conduct War Crimes trials fairly and expeditiously. I wonder why those lessons have been forgotten.

This is classic "internationalism". It's like the U.N., the people there need work. They're not interested in solutions or an end product. Maintainance of their structure and its perpetuation are the main drivers here. If they had numerous people to try it might be different. But if you're Slobo, and you're all they got....you're going to be there a while.
Because the US ran Nuremberg; the UN is running Saadam's and Milosevic's.
Milosovic is involved in a Kangaroo Court trial, The verdict and sentence have already been given, but they cant figure a way to make him look guilty.
The Saddam trial will go on and on, The biggest mistake here was not dropping a hand grenade in his hidey hole.
There is a lesson to be learned. I hope they dont make the same mistake with Bin Laden or the Z-man , be sure they resisting arrest and shoot them.
I didn't realize the UN was running the Saddam trial. Now I understand why it, too, will never end.

The problem is that they'd have to admit how much wrongdoing they ignored by the other sides in the Yugoslav conflict in order to determine that Slobo was the bad guy.
He was one of many players but only he and the Serbian people have been punished while all others have been rewarded handsomely.

World Court makes a mockery of justice. Where are the supposed hundreds of thousands Milosevic murdered? Nowhere. What did we kill 4,000 Serbian civilians to accomplish? A Muslim vassal state in the heart of Europe.
