Four years pass, Milosevic still on trial

(CNN) -- The war crimes trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic enters its fifth tedious year Sunday, and though international interest in the tribunal has waned, it has proved a useful tool in educating Serbs.

"Its greatest reverberation is in Serbia itself," where regional media have brought the crimes to center stage by airing and reporting on the proceedings, said Edgar Chen of the Coalition for International Justice, a group that supports war crimes tribunals.

Milosevic is charged with genocide and crimes against humanity in last decade's bloody Balkans conflict, and for four years, he has dragged out judicial proceedings with his political grandstanding and health-related absences.

The U.N. Security Council established the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in 1993, and Milosevic was charged with 66 counts involving war crimes during the Balkan wars.

No, no. You're being too far-fetched. There's no way he'll die before the verdict.

Oh, oops...

Just FYI. The United Nations has nothing to do with the Saddam trial. It is purely an Iraqi matter and the trial is being run under guidelines set up by the U.S.-backed Coalition Provisional Authority TAL

Glad to hear that. At least we'll have a verdict before the end of the decade.

He should get a medal for killing some muslims.

But this is a conundrum - HE DID NOT. He talked tough but he wanted to please everyone - UN, EU, NATO, Muslims. In the process he abandoned Serbs in Krayina(Krajina)/Croatia, in Bosnia and in the end in Kosovo. (Not that he had much choice - little Serbia could not stand up to the mightiest military alliance in history).

And the persecutors of Serbia had to vilify him and other Serbian leaders in order to justify their mendacity. The "free" media did their job very well.

Milosevic was just a typical wishy washy post-Communist leader who wanted to be accepted in the exclusive "demcratic" club of International Community. But he had bad luck of being leader of a country chosen to be destroyed on the altar of New World Order.

On the other hand the Providence gave him the chance of achieving greatness by forcing him to fight singlehandly against the total lie. (Such honor was given earkier to other Commies in another show trial after Reichstag Fire.) Let us hope this will atone for his sins and former godlessness.
