AccuWeather.com is forecasting a disruptive winter storm from the Tennessee Valley to New England.
An Alberta Clipper that moved out of western Canada into the Midwest is forecast to join forces with energy being carried by the southern branch of the jet stream. The Clipper will quickly gain strength as it picks up moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is forecast to be a fast-moving power-puncher, with a short period of heavy snowfall punctuated by the wind, causing blowing and drifting snow.
The storm will develop over Arkansas on Friday afternoon. By Friday night, the snow will begin in the Tennessee Valley and along the Appalachian spine. On Saturday it will roll through the mid-Atlantic states and by Sunday it will move through New England and out to sea.
The AccuWeather.com Winter Center is forecasting the following snowfall amounts: Washington D.C. -- 2-4" with higher amounts possible if the snow does not turn to rain Philadelphia -- 3-6" New York City -- 3-6" in the city, 6-12" to the north and west, 1-3" on Long Island Boston -- 6-12" with lesser amounts along the south coast and Cape Cod I-81 through Central PA -- 6-12"
Expert Senior Meteorologist Joe Bastardi says the storm will send cold air plunging as far south as Texas, and potentially could take snow south to the I-20 corridor, but he is forecasting most of snow in the South should develop along the I-40 corridor.
Florida will also feel the chilling effect of this winter storm as cold air wraps around behind the system. AccuWeather.com is forecasting overnight lows of 31 in Tampa, the coldest it has been since mid-December. Pensacola could be even colder on Saturday night, with a forecast low in the mid to upper 20s.
The weather news in the Southwest is not as dramatic. The wildfire danger in Southern California may ease slightly today. A dome of high pressure centered over the Rockies still dominates the weather across the Southwest, but it will be slightly weaker than the past few days. As a result the Santa Ana winds are not as strong today. Even so, conditions remain ripe for fires to spring up, with low humidity and continuing warm temperatures.
Red Flag Warnings remain posted through Saturday afternoon across the mountains and the Inland Empire of Southern California. The Sierra Fire in the Cleveland National Forest along the Orange - Riverside County line has grown to over 8,000 acres since Monday, and is about 35% contained. A small fire, believed to have been started by a burning abandoned car, erupted Wednesday in the rugged hills above Malibu but caused no damage to structures.

Although there seem to be some drivers in Ohio that think an inch is equivalent to a blizzard by the way they drive

Our summer place is in Conway. We don't usually see it until March and then have to shovel our way in. Much snow up that way this year?

Has she come up empty on previous breedings, or have you had pups out of her?
I swore I would never again make the mistake I did by breeding my first Siamese cat (she wasn't typey enough), so I spayed my first dog . . . dumb. She has turned out to be a great little retriever, a talented agility trialer, and the best personality around even for a Lab. Never met a stranger, dog or human, and a natural mother - somebody brought some 10 week old yellow pups to a training day, and she instantly adopted them - let them tussle all over her and even let them try to nurse and licked their heads. And she still flirts with the boys (I asked the vet if she could have missed something . . . she said no, but in the spring their pituitary glands try to make up for the missing hormones!)
No, she is six years old, and I have tried to breed her, with no success.
I can't go into details here, but I ended up owning her by default, ended up with an awesome bird dog not by choice.
When I asked the guy who gave her to me for her papers, I received an official letter from an attorney, and magazine clippings, a pedigree history, and a plea to let him (breeder) oversee her breeding -- to perpetuate the superior breeding.
I took her and left her with him the first time she came into, her cycle. I picked her up later and she wasn't pregnant.
Later, a breeder way up in the northern U.S., who specializes in the Llewellyn and Ryman breeds, asked me to send her up there. I did, and she came back not pregnant.
Last June I tried to breed her again. No positive.
So, I got worried about maybe the guy who whelped her spaded her or something.
Took her to the vet, spent BOOKOOO bucks, and he found there is no physical reason she can't conceive. The first thing he mentioned is the dogs' thyroid. Her thyroid tests came out good.
So, I'm sitting here writing all this to you. If she was here she'd be scratching my leg, begging my attention.
I tell you, she thinks I am the KING of the World, and I am missing her. I am worried she is not warm, or comfortable (no wonder she thinks I am the KOTW), and I have about decided to give up on her breeding, have her spaded to lessen her chances of mammary cancer, not have to worry about the messy parts of her cycle, and maybe she'll chill out and let me work without demanding my attention 24 hours a day.
Dang, I miss her, hope she's okay.

Well it appears what is at CPAC may remain at CPAC until after the storm.
Meteorological winter starts Dec 1.

We've had more rain/sleet/ice than snow.
No big storms this year.
The ski resorts are begging for a good foot to salvage this winter.
Sometimes you just can't get them bred, for no particular reason that anybody can find. I think some of them wait for True Love (I had a little Siamese queen like that. The only explanation we ever came up with is that she had to like the boy or she wouldn't conceive.)
The only other possibility I can think of is AI (with fresh chilled, not frozen - better batting average.) Our Lab breeder has had pretty good success with that method.
It's over!! There is no hope!!!
(don't worry, I've had many southern friends of mine that say that that I'm more redneck than they are...and I live in Chicago! LOL)
