CHERRY HILL, New Jersey, February 6, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Stacy Zallie ended her life at age 21, one year after undergoing a secret abortion. Although her family was close, Stacy never told them she had been pregnant and never talked about the abortion.
Her father believes it was pain over the abortion that led her to take her life. He has started a Web portal and foundation in her memory, the Stacy Zallie Foundation, that offers counseling and support to women who have had abortions.
"I knew it was a life event for her," Mr. Zallie told the CourierPost. "It was the most serious issue in that brief life of hers. I know, in my heart, it took a toll on her emotionally and mentally, that she couldn't recover from it. And it just breaks my heart that she didn't open up."
At one point Stacy asked to go in to therapy, but ended the sessions after only three months.
A successful businessman, George Zallie began the foundation after hearing women speak about the pain of living with the fallout from having an abortion, at a retreat following his daughter’s death.
"I heard guilt, remorse, loss," he recalls. "Their frankness was really astounding to me. It was helpful for me in understanding just what Stacy was going through . . . It became important to me to get the message out."
The site offers help to women who are suffering emotionally and spiritually from having ended their babies’ lives. The Foundation emphasizes the need for compassion and non-judgmental care, recognizing the depth of pain caused by abortion.
Dr. David Reardon, a post-abortion specialist and researcher, has collected extensive documentation on the effects of abortion. According to statistics, teenage girls are 10 times more likely to attempt suicide after abortion. 60 percent of women consider suicide and 28 percent attempt it after abortion.
“If I get one girl -- one girl -- to go to that site and realize that she's not alone, then it's worth it,” Mr. Zallie said.

It's certainly not something Planned Parenthood will report.
After two losses, this man deserves full credit. Prayers for his recovery.
Sadly, 7 out of ten women who have abortions say they are Christians. Of those, a significant number of them describe themselves as evangelical. I pray they find stronger connections with other Christian women who can help them avoid premarital sex and other actions God would not approve.

I wonder if Planned Parenthood includes these statistics in their phamplets..I doubt it.
I am at a loss for words, it's so sad her life ended that way, but i'm not about to be an armchair quarterback now.
I'm glad the father is helping other woman out though.
Parents need to tell their kids if their gonna fool around, dang it, at least go on birth control or use rubbers. There is nothing wrong with prevention, but if you fuc* up, at least have the kid and let someone else bring them up if you don't want them.
That is staggering indeed.
I feel bad for this man. Parents MUST discuss pregnancy with their daughters and re-assure them that they will support them NO MATTER WHAT. Now, this woman was an adult, not a child, and there may have been other problems, but I've known adult women whose own mothers advised them to get abortions. You know what, no matter how hard things would have been, those children would be adults by now, and in all likelihood would have brought their mothers, AND GRANDMOTHERS much joy.
Abotion is killing, it is evil, it is to be warned against in advance. Being pregnant, unplanned, is enough to make any woman panic. They need to be re-assured BEFORE they are "in trouble" as the old saying has it.
It's not that staggering a statistic when you consider the guilt that is almost certain to follow when a woman realizes that she has indeed murdered her own child.
I'm not surprised by this in the least. I have long maintained the only difference between most pro-life women and most pro-choice women is their view of abortion.
Both sides share the same basic view of their rights and responsibilities, vis-à-vis men.
What a brave man to step up and do something so wonderful amidst this terrible tragedy for his whole family. My prayers are with them all.
You are clearly reading more in my post than is there. What I said was there are some self-described evangelicals who have abortions. To suggest they do in anywhere near the same proportion as lukewarm Christians or those without religion is a stretch, and I don't appreciate you using my post to suggest there is little difference between the behaviors of Christian women and non-Christian women.

And you will hear liberals whining all the time about the need for counseling services for suicidal teens, but they will never own up to the fact of what causes the greater levels of depression among teens -- early sexual intercourse, and abortion.
What a heart breaker for a father. But he is turning something that could have been disastorous for him into something good.

Although most who have abortions do not consider suicide, they do spend their lives living with the guilt and/or mourning the loss of the child.
