Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..
During Bush's inauguration, the camera panned across Graham and he had this wierd facial tick thing going on and then he started digging in his nose....lol. It was gross!!
So, prissy Graham has a torture problem? He is an ex-JAG officer, which means he is a total pussy by nature.
But, in this case, he is making good points about what Congress can and cant do about it.
The most important point made today is that "the letter of the law matters, not Congress' intent when they made the law. If they screwed up, and did not limit the President's power in their wording, that is their problem.
I guess Schumer has his talking points and he's not going to let Gonzales interrupt him with an answer!
He just dropped a name of a Justice Official who disagreed with some aspects of the program...
Gonzales says he disagreed with other issues....
Gonzales: There hasn't been any serious disagreement about the program. There have been disagreements about other matters regarding operations which I can't get into.
Schumer: There was dissent within the admin.
Gonzales: To my knowledge, none of the reservations dealt with the program that we're talking about today. They dealt with operational...
Schumer: The head of the office of legal counsel expressed reservation about the program.
Gonzales: Let me say that differing views that have been the subject of these stories did not deal with the program that I'm here testifying to here today.
AND his scoring Brownie points with Schumer because of it...
you know, President Bush have felt VERY strongly that he is on VERY solid ground where his subject is concerned.
Leave it to the darn RINOS to muck it up...but, I don't understand why Brownback is with them.
Unfortunately he undermined that by suggesting that the President is unrestrained in interpreting the law as he wishes...completely ignoring the fact that the President has been briefing Congress.
He's quoting Newsweek!
Schumer: Newsweek reported that some Justice Dept. lawyesr were so upset that they hired private lawyers.
Gonzales: I don't know if that's true.
They seem to think ANY questioning by officials is dissent.
Schumer is rattling off the list of names from this Newsweek article.
Specter has no problem calling Comey and Goldsmith before the Committee. They'll get their 15 minutes.
So that was Schumers research arm.....OK?!!!
If Newsweek printed it it must be true............
Schumer: Attorney client privileges...it's up to the Chair who he wants to call as a witness.
Exactly.
Graham is wrong.
Now Schumer's quoting Newsweek FGS!
And that is one ugly tie he has on.
Geesh, Comey...the man who brought us Fitzgerald.
Sounds like Schumer is using his ten minutes to try to force Spectre to drag in the "Dem" witnesses.
Schumer: Newsweek reported that some Justice Dept. lawyesr were so upset that they hired private lawyers."
I guess that is how Schumer is briefed on current events. He probably has his copy of Newsweek on the floor next to his toilet in his Senate office bathroom.
