FReeper Canteen ~ Military Short Speak ~ Feb. 6, 2006
(Thanks Bro!) | Sweet Polly Purebread

Posted on 02/05/2006 6:58:31 PM PST by StarCMC

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

********

That's right - the Canteen mission
Support the troops and all they do
They've given up so much
All for me and you

There are so many here
Who keep the aim sure and true
They support the troops
And have lots of fun too

We dance and play
And spin on our toes
A turn of phrase
A joke or some prose

All for the troops
Who visit and  bask
Looking for a friend
A break from their task

So thanks to my friends
You know who you are
This army sister's brother
Is home from the war

You made my life easy
You taught me some things
You brought me such peace
You gave me wings

I'll always hold dear
The ones who have cared
Who gave me their true friendship
Thank you FReeper Canteen.

ArmyPatch small   NavySeal small   Air Force Seal   Marines Seal small   Coast Guard Seal small (better)

Acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations that aren't generally used in the "civilian world."

What is an acronym? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words. It is spoken as one word.

What is an initialism? It is a word created from the first letter of a series of other words, but each letter is spoken separately.

What is an abbreviation? It is a shortened version of a word.

What is Short Speak? It is any and all of the above.

Want to know what  they are talking about?  Read on...

Retreat

A bugle call sounded when the U. S. flag is being lowered at the end of the day.
Retriever
A special tank designed as a sort of "wrecker" for tanks. What they are able to do is almost a miracle.

retro  retrofit

REU  remote emitter unit

Reveille

A signal to awaken, get out of bed and begin the day. Often a bugle call, in boot camp more often the yells and screams of Drill Instructors and the sounds of GI cans crashing to the deck.

At my end of the state we have had a light dusting, that's it.
If the ground wasn't so wet I would have ran the lawn tractor across the grass.
It's 29 and windy.. Maybe snow tomorrow? they don't know.

Hello Luv -

Don't want to complain so I'll give the short & sweet:

Home stretch of the move - next weekend is it

I caught a cold

Husband feels guilty that I'm doing all the home stuff so he was on a tear today before his drive back

Tension is running a bit high

However, we will get through! We always do.

Thanks! Hubby said there was an uproarious cheer when the wheels of the plane touched down. There were about 600 soldiers on the plane, all from the Afghanistan theater. There are 599 other happy families tonight!

You have green grass under the snow? Wow. Well, stay warm this week. You had 29 degrees...we had a high of 80 today. However, it's supposed to "only" get into the 50's tomorrow. Poor us, huh? ;o)
