An inmate was killed and more than a hundred others were injured Saturday after 4,000 prisoners rioted at the Wayside Prison in Castaic, a Los Angeles County fire official said.
The riot broke out about 3 p.m. in the maximum-security wing of the all-male prison, at 29340 The Old Road. The prison is also known as the Pitchess Detention Center, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Ron Harralson said.
One prisoner was killed in the melee, and among the 100 injured, at least 20 have critical injuries, Harralson said.
The injured were taken to a triage area for assessment, and the more seriously-injured were taken to hospitals.
Its not known why the riot broke out, Harralson said.
At least 10%, possibly 20%. Domestic cases and many rape cases (without DNA) are simply he said/ she said. Depending on the composition of the jury, you could be screwed. Easily.
"Betcha at least half are illegals."
The last number I saw a few years ago for LA County was 63%. Wanna bet it is much higher now?
Hey, the deadliest wepon is your mind...
I thought this was a prison riot where inmates were serving time for crimes they were convicted of not just charged with.

Except in my case.......
I was not serious ofcourse, but I think I was thinking about the inmates I saw today on "Building the Supermax Prisons" which didn't seem to be housing any innocent people. I am sure that medium security prisons are much different. These guys were brutal and they all deserved to be where they were. Based on the inmates they held, you have to work pretty hard to get into one of those facilities. No place I would ever want to be.
OPINION: Our prisons are filled with a variety of gang-affiliated inmates.
I hear you. And in the County jail , I talked to guys who had been in the joint. They said the best part of County was that they didn't have to sleep with one eye open. That made an impression on me.
County was bad enough. I can't imagine State Prison. But I understand when guys say they can't wait to "wash the jail out" of them. That's how I felt.
I 2nd that opinion.
Long ago I had a friend I had known in high school who later got into trouble selling cocaine. He went to Old Folsom. He just happened to be Jewish. He was not a criminal type guy and was raised in a wealthy family.
I went with his wife to visit him once. We went to an outdoor BBQ area they had for family visits.
I remarked that all the other prisoners there and even their families looked a LOT rougher that him and how was he getting by in that crowd.
He laughed and told me that we he first got in, after the adjustment center at San Quentin, he just stayed off on his own until it was pointed out to him that he HAD to join in some gang for protection.
He said all the races hang together for the most part. Not many white guys hang'n with the Norteños or Sureños kick'n it with the Black Guerilla Family.....
Gangs are the rule, it would seem.
Only 1 died???? drat!
Only 1 died???? drat!
Not only that, LASD went to full mobilization, first time in a long time.
That jail is for people serving a year term. You can steal a car in Los Angeles and get 1 day in jail.
There's nothing on any of the cablenews channels about this riot. I wonder how bad it really is?
I know a pastor who spent time in jail for abortion protests and not for vandalism or any criminal activity that way.
I just checke MSNBC.com and FOXNews.com and they both have somethin on the riots; along with a headline about embassies in Syria on fire. (yeah, I know it's off topic but it's breaking on Fox)
Just heard it as well... I hope it's over.
75% of inmates are illegal aliens in the state of California.
