DETROIT (Feb. 4, 2006) -- Troy Aikman made it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame's biggest class in years. The guy he threw to -- Michael Irvin -- will have to wait once again.

Reggie White, Warren Moon, Harry Carson, John Madden and Rayfield Wright also were elected. Not since 2001 had the maximum number of candidates been chosen

I'm trying to remember something, anything Harry Carson did that merits being placed in with Payton, Brown, Butkus, Montana, et al.

Silly you. He qualifies because he played for the NY Giants. I think they are fashioning Shockey's bust as I type.

Let's not go overboard with the religous angle of Reggie White ...

Isn't this the same guy who used God as a bargaining chip when he was a free agent??

Never mind the stereotypical limitations and assumptions he placed on people (based on race) by removing their God given individual & natural skills.

Let's just keep it all in context ...

Harry Carson's 13-year stint with the New York Football Giants is one of the longest tenures in club history.
The indestructible former linebacker served as Team Captain for 10 of his 13 seasons including the 1986 season when the Giants defeated the Denver Broncos 39-20 in Super Bowl XXI.
Rated the #1 "Inside Linebacker" in NFL history according to Pro Football Weekly, Carson was named to the All-Rookie Team after his first NFL season. Subsequently, during his NFL career, he was named to the All-NFL Team 7 times, the All-NFC Team 8 times, and NFC Linebacker of the Year twice.
He once made an amazing 25 tackles in a Monday Night Football Game against the Green Bay Packers.
With performances like that he was selected by his peers to play in the NFC-AFC Pro Bowl 9 times and is among the top 300 players to ever play in the National Football League.

He was, in fact, praising groups of people based upon their skills. It's true that most whites are adept at raising capital. And that Hispanics make good use of space with people. And blacks are great and lively singers.

It was only "racist" and "stereotypical" to the PC people.

For an entire decade Warren Moon was the only player on the Houston Oilers that was worth a damn. Outside of the offensive line that is. He played for a very mediocre team and managed to get them to the playoffs nearly every year.

Like it or not, the guy won a lot of games, threw a lot of yards (I think the most if you include CFL), and threw a lot of touchdowns.

The Oilers of the late 80s and early 90s just didn't have a full team to go further into the playoffs.

Art Modell deserves to be grilled over an open fire and served as snacks at the induction ceremony. That's as close as he should ever be.

Is Carson the Giant who knocked Montana senseless in that playoff game? If so, I'm liking him better.

Stop making excuses ... I'm sorry but they were ignorant comments. I don't care who made them or at what time.

Most whites are adapt at raising capital? Huh? Are you serious? Do you have any numbers and/or links to back that up? Remove it to a per capita basis and let us know.

Hispanics are better at making good use of space? Are you saying that Europeans coming to America didn't make good use of their space in the early 1900's? How about modern day Europe? Africa? What about dense Middle Eastern cities? Sao Paulo? Japan? China? Columbia?

Blacks are great and lively singers? Are they named Sambo in that world too? Tell me, do they all have a good jump shot or are they better off the cross-over? Chicken or ribs for dinner? That's insane ...

Reggie may have had good intentions, but his communication of those ideas was extremely poor. The arrogance not to admit he made a mistake and for those to justify his comments, leaves a person to only shake their heads.

It mostly just shows his inability to see people as individuals and the positive attributes they bring to day-to-day life. Everyone's a cog in a machine ...

Considering their achievements over the years, they are probably one of the most underrepresented teams in the HOF.

That's myopia for you. Considering their achievements over the years, six Super Bowls and two NFL Championships among them, the most underrepresented team in the HOF is the Denver Broncos. Before Elway was enshrined two years ago, the Broncos had exactly ZERO players in the Hall of Fame unless you count the last year of Tony Dorsett's career or the first year of Willie Brown's career. That's it. Total. Cowboys underrepresented, my ass. Other than the 1960s Packers and the 1970s Steelers, no team has been OVERrepresented more than the Dallas Cowboys.

Why? Because he did what any idiot with half a brain would do? Funny how Davis, Irsay, Rosenbaum, Frontiere, and the gaggle of other pro sports owners don't receive a tenth the vitriol directed at Modell. The guy is a lion of the NFL; he is responsible for Monday Night Football.

But he left Cleveland. Boo hoo. The city kept the name and the records and had a pacifier stuffed in their mouths a couple of years after they wet their diapers. I'm surprised Modell tolerated the mistake by the lake for so long.

Maybe you don't remember anything memorable about him because he played for a bad team for the best years of his career. But Harry Carson was still a great player. He was a nine-time Pro Bowler and seven-time All-Pro, and Pro Football Weekly magazine rated him the best 3-4 inside linebacker of all time.

Aside from the Super Bowl Shuffle rap video, how many memorable things did Mike Singletary do in his career?

That was Jim Burt. I was at that game, awesome hit.
Harry caused the Roger Craig fumble in the Championship Game in 1991 that help beat the 49ers and send the Gaints to the Super Bowl in Tampa.

Moon might have hit even more receivers if he had spent less time hitting his wife. He was a jerk!

Irsay deserves to fry right next to Modell.

Both of them raped their cities by moving profitable teams from venerable NFL cities with a large base of deeply devoted fans.

I still can barely say "Indianapolis" Colts or "Baltimore Ravens" without a snicker.

Irsay and Modell deserve every bit of contempt and vitriol heaped upon them--and more.

I read a fascinating article about the Modell situation that explained the entire economics of the move in great detail.

Based on the points made in this article, Modell really had no choice but to move the team to Baltimore. Sure, the team was profitable -- but the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland came up with a guaranteed revenue package for the team that would effectively enable the Modell estate to pay the estate tax on the value of the team when he eventually died. Pretty amazing, when you think about it, how much influence tax laws have on these sports franchise decisions.
