Why? Because he did what any idiot with half a brain would do? Funny how Davis, Irsay, Rosenbaum, Frontiere, and the gaggle of other pro sports owners don't receive a tenth the vitriol directed at Modell. The guy is a lion of the NFL; he is responsible for Monday Night Football.
But he left Cleveland. Boo hoo. The city kept the name and the records and had a pacifier stuffed in their mouths a couple of years after they wet their diapers. I'm surprised Modell tolerated the mistake by the lake for so long.
Irsay deserves to fry right next to Modell.
Both of them raped their cities by moving profitable teams from venerable NFL cities with a large base of deeply devoted fans.
I still can barely say "Indianapolis" Colts or "Baltimore Ravens" without a snicker.
Irsay and Modell deserve every bit of contempt and vitriol heaped upon them--and more.
