Jed Babbin: Rockefeller IS the source of the leak on the NSA wiretaps..will he take a polygraph?
John Batchelor program..WABC radio

Posted on 02/03/2006 8:47:20 PM PST by ken5050

Turned on the radio, happened to catch the last segment of the John Batchelor show. He was interviewing Jeb Babbin....who many of us know and respect, and read his columns. I was absolutely stunned by what Babbin just said...hadn't seen/heard it anywheres..and thought it merits reposting for your benefit....

Many of us for years have felt that Rockefellow has been a spigot or an aquaduct behind the leaks.

Calling Senator Rockefeller
by Hugh Hewitt
February 4, 2006 05:35 AM PST
The American Spectator's Jed Babbin was on John Batchelor's radio show yesterday, and stated that the intelligence community believes West Virignia Senator Jay Rockefeller is the leaker who illegally supplied the New York Times with the details of the NSA program.

Given that the CIA's Porter J. Goss stated emphatically that the leak had done very serious damage to the Uniterd States, if Rockefeller is a suspect, he should be hauled before a Grand Jury asap. When the crime was bribery (Abscam)no one protested that a sitting U.S. Senator ought not to be atarget.

If the crime is much more serious --and this is-- purported good intentions should not shield the suspect.

Has any member of the press asked Rockefeller point blank if he's the law breaker yet?

Jed Babbin sits in for me on Monday's show. That's the day the hearings into the NSA program begin, and Jed will no doubt continue this conversation then.

They gave all the Clinton corruption a pass.

Actually they "saved his bacon." Trying him on is sexual peccadillo's did truly saved him. Although disgusting, morally and otherwise, it did not rise to the level of impeachment. As he could never have been convicted, Congress's heart wasn't in it (Republican or Democrat), it wasted time and money.

The House managers and others should have charged and tried him on his national security failures. These instances and circumstances were documented even then. It might even have made adjustments in how government works and possibly forestalled or even diffused 9-11. I read once (in some lawyers book on the impeachment) that this was the initial case but "the powers that be" changed the course of the proceedings. Congress didn't have the stomach for the truth?

I thought it was odd that he brought it up too. I'm trying to remember various exchanges from that hearing given this news and what I keep coming back to is Rockefeller's last statement, which followed Roberts odd comment

I thought I had recorded over the hearing that I taped .. but I still had the end of it

Roberts comments came after DiFi's questioning

Roberts kept talking about the committee and (9/11) investigations under previous leadership and independent staff .. which I believe would be Rockefeller

Also .. after Roberts tried to end the hearing .. Rockefeller chimmed in and wanted to respond .. and in the middle of Rockefellers lecture about following the law because the law is the law .. Roberts left the hearing before jay finished talking

Didn't Rockefeller also ask if the program was covert?

Yes he did .. he asked if it was a covert action as defined by the National Security Act

Negroponte answered no and then Rockeller said that was what they were told by the Justice Department yesterday

Okay....I sort of understand why the Bush wouldn't want the "hassle" of trying to indict a sitting Senator...especially one that is the Ranking Member of the Intelligence Committee...BUT... If they can find someone who can/will testify to Rocky's involvement in getting this stuff to Risen or the NYTimes...then Bush would have no choice. He is responsible for keeping this country safe...and if a Senator is working against him on this...then he must be removed, and if he broke a law in the process...then he must be adjudicated..

"solemnly swear...to support and defend (or preserve, protect and defend) the Constitution of the United States...against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic..."

I caught AGAG on Brit's today, and he looked like the proverbial cat that swallowed the canary...very confident..and as I said..Babbin , IMHO would not be going public with this unless encouraged to do so...there's more afoot here..I expect..happily..

Hi, Ken.

Will you be starting a live thread on Monday? If you do, please PING me. I love to read stuff like this, but as I will be at work, I may not have all day to try to find the thread. Thanks much.

I am expecting a massive amount of government corruption to be splayed, displayed, and dealt with before W's second term (thank You, Lord!) is completed. And with a praying president and a God who cares, I expect people to pay for their nefarious deeds in proportion to the dastard factor. (Yes, I mean "dastard" there.)

Since when do these Dems ever give a reason whatsoever for their allegations. I can inagine trying to nail Rockerfeller on this one. The Libs will go WILD , Bush Nazi tactics , blah blah blah

They already call Bush a Nazi, without cause...just the other day, when Sheehan was removed, some Congresscritter said they didn't know why "Bush had to sic his Gestapo guards on her". They may as well do the right thing, regardless of the name calling.

"IMHO would not be going public with this unless encouraged to do so...there's more afoot here..I expect..happily.."

I suspect you are right. After reading all the commentary to this post, I wonder if we may be misconstruing one more gigantic 'rope-a-dope' on the part of the Administration. At least I hope so.

I say that because there is no doubt that the AG is pursuing an investigation, beyond his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Also, the fact that Porter Goss and John Negroponte made it clear to the Intelligence Committee this week that the NSA leak has hurt ongoing investigations is proof that the Administration takes the leaks seriously. The just filed suit by Iman Ferris' attorney to obtain NSA wiretapping information against his client simply supports that contention. And the President's willingness to 'talk it up', whenever possible, has helped to expose the Dems for what they are; the anti-war, anti-security party.

I, for one, intend to simply sit back and see what unfolds. I believe the fact Babbin's information has become public serves a purpose. We may not know for months exactly what that purpose is, however I do believe we will find out in the 'fullness of time'.

Let's enjoy the show, folks!

right before the hearing ended, Rockefeller made what seemed at the time to be an idiotic statement. He said that he expected that the source of the leaks would turn out to be the Executive Branch...

I heard that Goss testified that discussion of the NSA terrorist surveillance program has harmed the effort and that some 'Rat senator (Traitorfeller?) blurted out that Bush has been talking about it, too. I could only shake my head. Leak a national security secret while accusing Bush of illegal spying, then blame Bush for compromising national security by defending himself against the ridiculous accusation. The 'Rat's brand of sandbox politics must be terminated.

Thanks for checking that out. That's how I remembered the sequence and I also remember Rockefeller sounding really funny, his voice had that tone one gets when something is very personal. (But I haven't seen enough of him to actually know if that isn't how he always sounds.)

What do you make about his question regarding the covert status? Was he trying to defend the leak because it wasn't covert?

Hey, it worked (sort of) for Joe Wilson, didn't it? He trashed the White House and when they defended themselves, you see what we got: Fitzgerald.

I have had this thought from time to time; it's almost like if we're patient, it's all going to be connected and exposed.

Are you saying the "terrorist surveillance program" was not a covert program ?

Then, how can the leak about it have hurt this country if it was not covert ? And if it's not covert, why can't anyone talk about it ?

Really confused now.

Blessings on that thought, Howlin.

You know, when the head of state is seeking a clean house, it's harder for the dirtballs to hide. And when the rugs are lifted, he isn't going to be afraid to call in the clean up crew. Sometimes the truth hurts (very badly), but people like W and those he has around him would rather face the bad pain short term so the country can have a clean house long term.
