Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
It is so ironice
Schumer is saying that a thorough investigation needs to be done...about whether this CFIUS group is "the right group to do this, in this POST 9/11 WORLD"..and that maybe "changes need to be made to reflect that post 9/11 status"....
HMMMMMMMMMMm...and yet, when the NSA thing came up, and President Bush said that in the post 9/11 world, the FISA court law from 1978 did not reflect the differenc since 9/11....NO..NO....Bush couldn't do THAT!!!
BLECH
Schumer is shoveling so much manure today...it is sickening..
But he is introducing legislation co-sponsored by 12 others..6 of whom are Republicans..the only one he named was Norm Coleman.
I get the idea that Lamar lives in an alternate universe than we do sometimes...
yeah..airlines are gonna love having to give up seat space for a cell-phone lounge!! LOL
What makes my hair go on fire is that DU and others scream when 9-11 is mentioned telling us to "move on".
NO...They are really supposed to be debating the Patriot Act today, (more irony)...but so far, Sen.Warner has spoken in favor of the Dubai ports deal...and Lamar Alexander has spoken about putting a room at the back of every airplane for people to go that want to talk on their cellphones...
And, then Chuckie was up about the Dubai thingy...so I don't know who else will be talking..
I heard somewhere this morning that Sen. Shelby was supposed to have a hearing about the Dubai thing tomorrow...
MEGA eye roll!
Yes....like I said to Bah...those Airlines are going to love Alexander's suggestions...sheesh.
Oh dear....Harry Reid is going to preach to Bush about what a failure and an incompetent he is....
I used to expect a Republican Senator to get up and slap down the lies of Harry Reid...
And, boy, is he spewing them today..one after another....
But, I have a feeling all of the Republicans have jumped the shark....so, I doubt any would disagree with Harry.
Yes...Rush came on first thing today....and said that once again the Dems are disappointed...because they were really hoping that Civil War would be in full blast in Iraq by today...
What's the occasion ??
To give grandstanding speeches about killing the port deal ... like they killed the patriot act???
Keep it up Congress .. right now many of you are a terrorist best friend
We just finished installing a new printer so our computer has been down; I'm assuming it's a good thing I missed the Senate discussing the port deal?
Yes....nothing of substance...grandstanding..and you can bet that is ALL it will be.
I was just on the Hannity thread...and Mark Levin started posting to a few posters that were really down on Hannity's take on this...
I did ask Mark if there would have to be a law change in order for a new investigation be done any other way...than the way they did before, which is in secret..and the particulars kept classifed.
He said that yes...in order for Congress to be able to have a VOTE of this deal....the law would have to change..which Mark is for...NOT because he trusts Congress...
but, because HE wants to be able to read the contract and find out the particulars.
I told him that to ME...if he could read the contract and find our exactly when the Dubai Company would be able to do/not do...regarding any kind of security...and if HE could tell us what his opinion is...I would trust his opinion far more than watching Congresscritters hot dog for the cameras..
and just use the hearings as campaign commercials..and to blame Bush for everything under the sun.
Mark seemed to indicate that he would be satisfied if the contract was made public so that HE could check it over.
SENATE

Previous Meeting
Monday, Feb 27, 2006
The Senate convened at 2:00 p.m. and adjourned at 5:07 p.m. No record votes were taken.
Will they actually do any considering of the Patriot Act? We shall see.
Did I hear correctly on Brit's show last night that Spector was going to introduce a bill to change some provision of the PA, but AFTER the bill was extended by Congress?..The man's mad..so full of himself..
LOL. Here's Reid trying to indicate that it is NOT dems holding up the pension bill. He will not move forward until he gets the people he wants on the conference committee. Such a putz.
