FLASHBACK: Man Wearing Anti-Clinton T-Shirt Removed from Senate Gallery at Impeachment Trial
Wednesday, February 1, 2006 | Kristinn

Cindy Sheehan, the drama queen who was removed from the House gallery last night before the State of the Union address for wearing a t-shirt with a political message, is not the first person to be tossed from a Congressional gallery at a high-profile event for wearing a political t-shirt.

In the early days of the Senate's impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton in January 1999, a Pennsylvania man named Dave Delp was removed by the Capitol police from the Senate gallery for wearing a t-shirt that said, "Clinton doesn't inhale, he sucks."

Unlike Sheehan, Delp didn't make a federal case of the incident and took his removal with good spirit. He told me at the time that he hadn't gone into Senate chamber to protest, but that he had opened his jacket some while sitting in the gallery.

An alert Capitol police officer hustled him out of the gallery and took him to the sub-station in the basement of the Capitol for processing. The only real trouble Delp got into was when he mistakenly thought the doughnuts left out on a table in the sub-station were for guests.

Delp was released after an hour or so without being charged. The New York Daily News did a brief story about the incident which was picked up for a gag by Saturday Night Live.

I haven't seen Delp in a few years, but we always have a good laugh about the incident when we run into each other in D.C.

On Fox & Friends this AM, Kay Bailey Hutchison was on and she clearly mentioned the banner.

Thank you for that information! We seem to have a sympathizer for the Marxist liar on this thread. LOL

The right winger (your words, not mine) acquiesed to the security guards and went with them quietly.

Sheehan, the left winger (my words) put up a ruckus and aggravated her offense.

She was probably handcuffed, but it wasn't behind her back----

They should have "Thumb Cuffed" her and hog tied her

Then you did read my post to you which quotes a Capitol policeman. Nice bit of editing out that which doesn't support your agenda.

I haven't seen any first hand account to support your statement.

Bogus! Bogus alert!

You've been shown SEVERAL first hand reports and you're ignorning them and seem to apparently take Cindy Sheehan, a documented liar, at her word.

I call troll on you.

I would have liked to see the President let her carry on

You just show your agenda with every single post.

The president of the United States has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the Capitol Security.

That's very interesting, if true. The "handcuffed" part ought to be very easy to prove by video.

Or by picture. I would post it but I think it is a getty image. Here is a link to it and the story. http://cdn.news.aol.com/aolnews_photos/0b/07/20060201145509990002 http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060131204009990009&ncid=NWS00010000000001

Cindy Sheehan was irrelevant to the Constitutionally mandated State of the Union address. To have done as you wish and have the President of the United States allow her to disrupt this occasion and acknowledge her is a foolish and contemptible idea/wish.

Preventing her from carrying out an obviously premeditated plan, triggered by her disobeying the Congressional rules for guests, was the correct course of action. As a known consorter w/our nation's enemies, I would have wished her refused admittance in the first place.

Ignoring an obvious crank was not a viable option.

She is not as important as she thinks she is.

FNC reporting that Cindy Sheehan was told if she put her jacket back on, she could stay at the SOTU speech. She refused. ......... She also claims she was handcuffed behind her back. A lie.

That's very interesting, if true. The "handcuffed" part ought to be very easy to prove by video.

Here's some more details:

he wife of Rep. C.W. Bill Young said she was ejected during President Bush's State of the Union address for wearing a T-shirt that said, "Support the Troops Defending Our Freedom," a newspaper reported Wednesday.

Beverly Young said she was sitting in the front row of the House gallery Tuesday night when she was approached by someone who told her she needed to leave, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

After reluctantly agreeing, she said, she argued with several officers in an outside hallway.

"They said I was protesting," she said in a telephone interview with the newspaper Tuesday. "I said, 'Read my shirt, it is not a protest.' They said, 'We consider that a protest.' I said, 'Then you are an idiot.'"

Capitol Police disagreed with Young's account of the incident.

"She was not ejected from the gallery. She did leave on her own," said Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, who said she could not provide further information.

Young, 50, said her shirt is a message of support for U.S. soldiers and Marines. She often wears such T-shirts when she visits her husband, a Republican from Indian Shores, at the Capitol, as well as troops who have been wounded.

Rep. Young found out about the incident after Bush's speech.

"I just called for the chief of police and asked him to get his little tail over here," Young said. "This is not acceptable."

The charges have been dropped so she will probably file a civil suit that will keep her on the talking head shows for a very long time.

And so far we still don't know the FACTS or why the charges were dropped, so don't start patting yourself on the back just yet. So far, all you've been doing is quoting Cindy, a documented liar.

And just so you'll know, much to my delight, virtually NOBODY is talking about this, except the people on this thread. I've had the TV on all the cables all day long -- N O T H I N G.

I'm stunned that you don't see the difference between a congressman's wife who was NOT ejected from the gallery but chose to leave on her own, and Cindy who obviously was making a fuss.

Are you calling the Capitol police liars?

I've given you this quote before:

Thus far, only the Washington Post has revealed, “She was also vocal, said U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer, and after she ignored instructions to close her jacket and quiet down, she was led out and arrested. Demonstrating in the House gallery is prohibited.”
