Good morning, all.
Join us today for the final victory lap, the vote to "confirm Samuel Alito, of New Jersey, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court."
It's all over except the final vote tally.
Lots of surprises yesterday at the HUGE vote to impose cloture, so perhaps there are still some surprise votes to come?
TOPICS: Breaking News; Politics/Elections

I'm going to predict the Dems will throw a few more votes Alito's way just to make sure at LEAST 61 confirm. If they don't, let's just say strategically they are dumber than I thought. Heck, we ought to be calling the wafflers and make SURE they vote against.
If you thought the DUmmies were sad yesterday, anywhere from 52 to 59 votes would demoralize a bunch of them to the point of staying home in November - that is VERY good for us in an off year. They'd also work against some Dems in the primaries (thus saving the GOP money! LOL!)
Ken, will you add me to your ping list?

He better hurry and get one. He has to be well dressed tonight at the State of The Union speech. After fifteen years as a Federal Circuit Court Judge I'm sure he'll have plenty to choose from.
I feel great for Mrs. Alito. Senator Byrd may be a Klansman, the Duke of Pork, and a 'Rat, but he at least had enough personal honor to call out the scumbags who tried to smear Judge Alito and upset his wife.

I would love to send a letter to Justice Alito after today, congratulating him on his confirmation. I wonder if there is an address where that could be done? I wonder if congrats to his mother would be shared with Samuel A., Jr., as well.

They're amazing, aren't they? I especially like the conspiracy theory posts with some version of Bush and martial law cleansing the land of liberals and gays, hauling them off to some torture camp and never having an election again as BushCo, Diebold, Halliburton and the aliens laugh and poison the environment forever, drinking oil, bombing peaceful enlightened cultures and forcing mothers to actually bear their children. To Canada, everyone!
They actually believe this stuff. And they drive on public roads, and vote.

Ensign (R) missed the vote because of the accident
Harkin (D) missed the vote to visit Walter Reed Hospital war wounded (yea right, I believe that one)
Hagel (R) missed the vote because....No one knows. He made the Sunday talk show circuit. I think he was too scared to publically make a decision so he ducked. The guy just oozes Presidential material. lol

You did an excellent job. The threads were a God-sent for those of us that are cubicle challenged and could not listen to the hearings. Thanks to these threads, I was able to peak in and see what was happening. Again thanks to all who participated the last couple of days. A big thank you to Free Republic for being here.
