If the cloture vote should somehow fail, the Republicans MUST invoke the Nuclear Option immediately. Otherwise 60 votes will have become the de facto threshold for Supreme Court confirmation. I agree.

A political opportunist just waiting for some encouragement. The Senate Dems. must be handing out medals for political *bravery* and chicanery. Something is driving him forward on this filibuster mission.

Frist and Co. aren't going to get blindsided. This business of a filibuster is a political non-starter for the Democrats.
I admit I get a laugh out of you "glass half empty" conservatives though.

Fox flashing that at least 62 senators will vote for cloture.

Further, I think VP Cheney should be presiding when the cloture vote takes place.

The VP won't be needed. The VP only votes to break a tie vote. At this juncture, the Democrats don't have a prayer.

Dear Jumpin Jim: Should voters consider the political philosophy when they elect someone as .....oh I don't know, say a Senator to their state?
Or should a senator take money from a party to get elected, and then declare himself "independent".
Choke on your words, old man. and Happy Retirement!
