The Senate meets at noon today, again in Executive Session, for the 3rd day of debate on the nomination of Samuel Alito to SCOTUS. Not sure, what, if anything, will happen today..Will there be a filabuster?..will anyone show up..might be work while checking out the beginning of the session, to get the lay of the land....

Sen. Feinstein will vote against cloture and for the filibuster.

Scott at the WH says that Kerry showed yodeling skills by calling for filibuster from Switzerland.

I don't think that it has anything to do with calls. I think this was planned to delay the filibuster to do the most damage to Republicans and Bush. My guess is they will use the calls as an excuse.

Again Frist is a fool. I could tell that Dinghy Harry was playing good cop, bad cop, all week.

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Having a hard time making up her mind, LOL. Anyway, it's no matter what her position is. She's not part of the gang-of-14, and is free to vote however she thinks best suits her political future.

Feinstein, a California Democrat and a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said yesterday that while she considers Alito too conservative and will vote against him, his views are not so far outside the mainstream of U.S. politics to merit a filibuster.

"I don't see those kinds of egregious things emerging requiring a filibuster," Feinstein said on CBS' "Face the Nation" yesterday. "I might disagree with him. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have credentials to serve on the Supreme Court."

Good. Finally.

I've considered if this stunt will be done just to deprive Alito from being present as an Associate Justice for the SOTU address. But that would be seen as being vindictive and obstructionist.

No matter how you slice it, if cloture fails, the Byrd option will be invoked. Period.

I'm looking but don't see where Diane said she'd vote for the filibuster; I was going off the headline which I think was changed by a freeper.

Has she said she'd vote on a filibuster?

We need to flood Frist's mail box and phone with demands to pull the nuclear option. Call Grahm and McCain too.

My sense is that the nomination is going to pass with no substantive trouble. Meanwhile, lots of smoke.

The nominee is too solid to get away with stiffing him on a 41 vote minority.

I say get them to filibuster.

Lets nuke it now while we have enough firm votes rather than wait until after the '06 elections when we might lose seats.

... not sure if it requires 50% of the senators SEATED or 50% of the senators PRESENT to send the question to the president of the senate.

I never looked it up in detail, or if I did look it up, I forgot. Take the following with a grain of salt.

Sending a point of order to the chair is an action that a single Senator can take. Then, given a ruling from the chair, a Senator and a second can cause a vote to appeal the rule of the chair. A vote to appeal is a vote to "reverse" the rule of the chair, if you will. A motion to appeal the rule of the chair carries on a majority of Senators present AND voting.

That scenario is basically the nuclear option, and the DEMs are nuts if they provoke things that far. I'm all for it if they do, BTW. Alito turned in a solid performance, and scuttling the nomination with 41 votes against is not going to happen.

WOW...that is great!

Have you gotten e-mail from him before??

I hate that he is going on Fat Timmy's show though...I hate to have to watch his pig face...

I read that Fox is having Howard Dean on...

Surely, SOME show has to have Kerry on....I mean he is the ringleader of this insane filibuster attempt.

I wonder if Frist will be on with someone...

Last week, I think Osama Obama was on by himself.

That wasn't necessary...she really has health issues.

Well...just because she now has health problems does NOT negate her nasty, nasty mouth, her nasty, nasty nature and her nasty, nasty attacks on ANY & EVERYTHING that it is not on the far, far left of side of liberal. She is a despicable person thru and thru...and her present health has absolutely nothing to do with that, unless she has breast cancer her entire life!

IMHO (and I suspect many, many more people's opinion, too.)
