Posted on 01/27/2006 8:38:03 AM PST by ken5050

The Senate meets at noon today, again in Executive Session, for the 3rd day of debate on the nomination of Samuel Alito to SCOTUS. Not sure, what, if anything, will happen today..Will there be a filabuster?..will anyone show up..might be work while checking out the beginning of the session, to get the lay of the land....

Johnny Isakson, junior senator from GA

I thought he and Chambliss had been absent from the Senate floor for a while now. Guess so.

At least we got rid of Max Cleland.

obvious from kerrys comments that he either did not watch the alito hearings, was not paying attention, didnt understand what was said or is just flat out lying with regards to alito. or any combination.

kerry further sinks his political career. did you know he served in viet nam?

I have been lurking and the DUers are calling and e-mailing each and every Democrat Senator three or four times - even the ones who are voting yes on Alito. The ones who voted No on Alito are NOT SURE about a Filibuster and Will decide this weekend. From the responses the DUers have been getting the Senators on the Filibuster fence are now counting how many calls and e-mails they get. If they get alot of them they will vote yes on a filibuster. Maybe we freepers should call some of the Democrat Senators in our states. The only ones calling are DUers and they are counting all the calls for a filibuster and if there are more than enought filibuster calls they will vote yes.

That's what old CBoldt gets for being so intelligent. Something I have never been accused or guily of.

I knew 60 was the magic number but was wondering if a "wrench" could be thrown into the process by some Dims voting present. I had read something along those lines on a few far left wing sites.

Thanks though. I will set my magic counter for 60 come Monday afternoon.

I just tried to get through to my two useless Senators.

According to Cantwell's office, she's meeting with Judge Alito on Monday and will decide then whether or not she will support a filibuster.

Murray's phones are busy, so I can't get through.

Cantwell's office sounded exasperated, and a bit guarded in their response. The first thing the gal said was, "Senator Cantwell hasn't made a public statement."

My Senators stink. Clinton is supporting a filibuster and I can't get thru to UPCHUCK but I think I have an idea he will support one.

Feinstein to Support Filibuster

Senator Feinstein to Vote No on Cloture for the Nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that she will vote no on cloture regarding the nomination of Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr. to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

“Based on a very long and thoughtful analysis of the record and transcript, which I tried to indicate in my floor statement yesterday, I’ve decided that I will vote no on cloture.”

I thought that was odd as well. After ranting and raving about him on the Senate floor, why meet with him again? What could he possibly say that would influence her now?

I think she's buying time to see if the filibuster fizzles out on its own, so she doesn't have to take a stand.

It seems as though the Democrats are going to force the nuclear option to be invoked on Tuesday, the day of the STOU. Frist is a fool for not calling for cloture, today.

Yup it looks that way. The ones who are sitting on the fence about filibustering are going to vote yes on the filibuster if they get enough calls. DUers are making sure they do.
