"How about Biden? Is he still overseeing Palestinian elections?"
Yeah, he had to show Hamas how to cheat in elections like the Democrats do here. Apparently he did a very good job!

there will be a vote on confirmation -- no cloture process needed Well that explains Reid's defeated look

If so many Dems are out of the country, then wouldn't we win a cloture vote? What am I missing?

We know the Senators HATE working on Friday...and I am sure that any Dem senators, knowing that Alito will be confirmed, that will be asked to speak tomorrow...
will NOT be happy...so, I wouldn't be surprised if Reid made it seem that there will be dem speakers tomorrow...but, surprise..when tomorrow gets here..
NO one to speak...sigh....and at that time, the UC request for Monday at 5:30 will be agreed to...but, in the meantime, the GOP will show up when they didn't need to...
Politics is dumb.

Kennedy will SLEEP through the whole speech...and Hillary will have her "smirk" firmly affixed on her face throughout.

Bummer about the tree and all. Glad it missed the house.
You didn't miss much today. If there is going to be any meaningful development, it'll come this afternoon or evening.

To read DU, if Alito is appointed, women will lose, not only the "right" to kill their unborn babies, but just about be forced into servitude.

If so many Dems are out of the country, then wouldn't we win a cloture vote? It doesn't matter if opposer are out of the country, on that. 60 affirmative needed to pass it.
The reason the vote will be held up, regardless, is that the Senate will not call for a vote as a matter of general principle, unless all the Senators who want to vote, can be there to do so.

You forgot to add on your "news day" list...that Hamas and Fatah are fighting to ensure that there will still be no intelligent democrat government to overtake Israel.
