You and I often disgree, and this point is one. I have stated my side, but am not interested in an argument. People can choose to look at this however they want.

I'm not so sure we disagree on this, much at any rate. I just figure SCOTUS nominations are easier, whether by "necessity" or public perception or whatever, they MUST move through. I'm not saying it's easy, obviously it isn't. But the nominations to SCOTUS have a life of their own, aside from the skill of the Senate Majority Leader.

Now when Frist gets Myers and Boyle up for a floor vote, that will demonstrate some skill. Those nominations, being for mere Circuit Court positions, have less of a life of their own, and depend on the initiative, acumen and skill of the Senate Majority Leader to be advanced. Most people have forgotten (if they ever knew) that the nominations were moved out of Committee, but the public does not lose sight of a SCOTUS nominee.

I think that Davos thing goes on for a week...so Kerry may have to choose...what do you want to bet that Theresssssa wants to stay in Davos??

I may have heard wrong...but I thought I heard that McCain is in Davos also..McCain seems to enjoy traveling with the dems...so maybe he went with Kerry.

Frist is mediocre at best.

Roberts and Alito were highly qualified appointments.

If you want an example of his work at crunch time, take a look at the case of John Bolton. Here was a highly qualified nominee who was crucified for no reason. It was a disgrace that President Bush had to step up and do the right thing.

I would like to see someone like Jeff Sessions or Tom Coburn as a leader for once.

I should have spell checked. Surprise.

Seriously though. Don't you remember he screwed up the count last year? Do you think he's got it this time?

I hope he does get it done by Tuesday at noon; I have my doubts.

Whether Pat (or us, for that matter) likes it or not, what "happened today" was not a failure; they have free non-violent elections.

Agreed, they now have to come before the world of nations and be accountable for their actions.

They can kiss their international aide goodby if they do not reform their way of thinking.

One other thing, thank God, Israel built that fence.

Interesting neither senator from NJ has committed themselves.

They will be in disgrace if they vote against him.

Alito is highly thought of here in NJ. Mendenez is already trailing in the polls against Kean Jr.

Looks like Lieberman is going to vote NO on Alito. No more Rebel Joe. He's "troubleed."

Sad, I like Joe when he talks about national defense.

I just can't figure him out. If I recall he use to be pro-life. Maybe it is the left wing that is threatening to challenge him in the primary that is causing this no vote.

All the talk of Liebermann being such a good guy is bogus; try to think of ONE TIME he's done the right thing.

I know he is as liberal as they come but he has stood by the president in the iraq war.

Lieberman joins Dodd in opposing Alito's confirmation

By ANDREW MIGA
Associated Press Writer

January 26, 2006, 6:01 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Connecticut Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman said Thursday that he will vote against Samuel Alito because he fears the Supreme Court nominee would fail to safeguard vital civil liberties.

"I am left with profound concerns that Judge Alito would diminish the Supreme Court's role as the ultimate guarantor of individual liberty in our country," Lieberman said.
