Mullin: Feinstein turned me off Alito

Orrin Hatch almost had me convinced. In moving toward Tuesday's 10-8 vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito, Utah's senior senator had predictably pasted all his adversaries as liberal, and therefore not to be trusted - including Democratic committee members, abortion rights advocates, The Washington Post and The New York Times. For weeks Hatch and his Republican colleagues had argued that opposing Alito was an insult to the man's intellect, impeccable judicial record, dedication, ability, even his patriotism.
There were times in all that back and forth when Hatch's claims made sense. Stomping all over Alito for hours about his Vanguard mutual funds, for instance, grew tiresome and overblown. Same goes for an unsavory choice of a college-era club membership with a reputation for racism and exclusion. That may say something about his character. Or, like the 98.7 percent of us who made dumb choices in college, it may also say something about how we grow up and eventually straighten out.
Alito is smart, articulate, decent. Hatch, Lindsey Graham, John Kyl, Bill Frist - each are right about that. Besides, this is President Bush's administration, and he gets to pick whom he wants.
But just in time, Sen. Dianne Feinstein plunged a dagger into the proceedings. Before casting her no vote, the California Democrat noted her main reason for opposing Alito: "If one is pro-choice in this day and age, in this structure, one can't vote for Judge Alito. It is simply that simple. I am very concerned about the impact he would have on women's rights."
Thwack. I woke up.

If you're not 100% for aborting babies, liberals have no use for you.

And Mormons keep this paper in business? I thought they had strong family values. Possibly, the over-running of NV by refugees from CA has polluted the state.

Its quite funny to see a liberal from one of most Red States in the Union bewail Alito's threat to a basic "constitutional right." If Mullin feels so strongly about the issue, she should move to a state where she can get an abortion if she wants one.

In other words, abortion uber alles. Who gives a damn about the Constitution, judicial restraint, or the power of the legislature to make the law? If he won't commit not to overturn Roe v. Wade, then we must oppose him.

Please recognize that for these feminist this is not about killing babies. It is even more cold blooded than that... it is about raw political power based on the concept that no man should have any power over any woman.
Dead babies are collateral damage in this fight.
The political emotion being invoked here is the "all men are rapist; all sex with men is rape" agenda. The tool being used to fight is the "abortion is a woman's choice and no man can tell her what to do with her body". It appears that support for this intractable position is being weakened. The people are realizing how radical this agenda is. Read Roe v Wade. It does not allow for unrestricted abortion... Terminating third trimester pregnancies is not supported by the Roe decision. Yet, Finestein and Holly Mullen would make you think it is...
Thwack, indeed!

Well then, giving Teddy a THWACK could be a good thing!

In some ways I feel sorry for this lightweight me-too writer who gets all her material from other sources. Her high level of creativity, comes to us with a Thwack.
She is appealing to the pseudo sophisticated Utah liberal crowd, running around kissing the arse of the ACLU mayor Anderson.
