Why not? A squat cylinder is more consistent with the text than the actual shape of the earth is. A squat cylinder has two surface planes which are circles. An irregular oblate spheroid (the shape of the earth) has no such surfaces.

I took the time in the past to find a Hebrew word for sphere. There isn't one. There is a word for ball, but it also implies a child's plaything. In Hebrew, circle is the best word to desribe the earth.

As far as the analogy of astonomy to astrology and evolution to ID, it doesn't really hold up. Not to say that there is any merit to creation science or ID, just to point out it is a flawed analogy and using it just makes the person using it seem to be intellectually dishonest or dumb.

No. You're comparing an argument based upon the religious attitudes of some people who accept evolution to an argument based upon the founding members of the ID movement. The two arguments are not comparable.

Astrology doesn't seek to address questions of astronomy or astrophysics. ID or creation science do seek to address the same questions evolutionary biology tries to address.
