do you think it will be a weekend session ...

I'm not sure at this point. None of the Senators wants to do that. I figure the DEMs will mislead the GOP somehow, such as promising a UC agreement to vote on Monday or Tuesday, but not delivering it.

I don't think there is any urgent need to hold the Senate for the weekend. Frist is offering all night tonight, and all of tomorrow night for debate. He can file a cloture motion on Friday, offer debate through the weekend, and hold the cloture vote "whenever" on or before Tuesday.

... surprised that Reid had no opening comments?

Me too. I also notice that a couple other matters will be intruding on the debate on Alito - renewal of the PATRIOT Act and NSA hearings come to mind.

Leaky Leahy now congratulating Specter for working so hard. Clearly the 17th or 18th amendment (can't remember which) needs to be repealled. Senators should not be elected, but selected by state government, just as the Founding Fathers originally set up.

No need to get snippy Darhling...LOL! But after a while it gets tiresome hearing that the RATholes are "clueless" and another one, "they just don't get it". Sure they get it, they know exactly what they're doing! Just calling it like I see it...the RATholes are full of HATRED!

C-SPAN announced earlier that the Senate would have debates until 11:30am, lunch break, resume at 2:30pm and would go until 11:30 tonight. (There presumably will be a dinner break in there somewhere.)

Arlen got Alito out of committee. That is better than Chairman Hatch could do. Or perhaps you liked Leahy better.

Wow--thanks for your perspective Ken. I could not stand to watch yesterday morning's goings-on and appreciate your insights because they are excellent. Really got tired of slapping my TV screen the last time Kennedy and Biden and Leahy went after Alito. What bloviators!

And that word summons up a great cartoon: Kennedy et al in gladiator digs with swords drawn around a picture of an unborn baby and a crowd of lib pro-abortion groups (NARAL, NOW, etc.) cheering wildly. And a caption: The "little guy" vs the "Lions of the Left."

Why? Arlen Sphincter (RINO-PA) is a RAT in drag.

Regardless of Spector's standing with conservatives, the democRATs are only hurting themselves by turning the confirmation hearings into a platform for bashing the president. Do you seriously think that anyone watching the hearings was impressed by the democRATs performance?

Says there must be a legislative solution because the courts are unable to handle this problem (soon enough).

Reid probably is having to "rehearse" his prepared speech sent to him from Soros..

I am SURE that Soros doesn't want his favorite tool..to be unable to pronounce the BIG words again....LOL

Specter says, "yes," those people are suffering. Comments on this should be put in appropriate category, "Morning business."

I agree that Specter can drive a conservative crazy, but in both the Roberts and Alito hearings, he has done a superb job and is to be congratulated.

Specter: I think Alito should be confirmed, based on what came out at the hearings.
