If JimRob, etc. approve this is the Live Thread for the Canadian General Election, on January 23rd, 2005.

We have a while to go before the returns start coming in, but I thought the thread needed to get up and running.

Don't forget Quebec City. The Tories took 4 of 7 seats there - with Independent talk radio host Anrdre Arthur taking the fifth.

I'm still in complete happy happy over here. If it can happen in Canada, I'm hoping the right can re-take the bay area, somehow. I pray.

We all win.

Yep. That's how I feel. We all win when conservatives win.

Well, to be honest, we had a few screws loose ourselves for 8 of those years!

BTW, does anyone else find Canada's new first lady, er, well, not terribly hard to look at?

You know this thread has had 86,000+ views? That's pretty high, even for breaking news threads.

No prob! I'm living here now for school, I'm happy for all of you. Despite some grinding of elbows, You guys have always been a good neighbor & a great friend. I can't wait to watch some lefties around campus sulk and mope. That is always fun.

I think that a good ball has started rolling, hopefully it keeps on rolling.

Any election that has had Michael Moore as upset as this one is alright by me.

Sorry, Mikey, maybe you will have to leave Canada as well?

Heck, we need to THANK Michael Moore! I think the more elections he sticks his nose in and tells people to vote liberal the better. For our side!

The way I look at this is this is only the beginning. Remember W. barely squeeked by in 2000, but won a good outright majority in 2004 AND both houses of congress.

It will come my friends. Canada is a conservative country. I have seen on liberal boards people going nuts. It's absolutely hilarious!

Sigh of relief!!

Past 2 decades spent working oil patch here in Calgary....[Last firm was head office Houston]
we had so many contracts scuttled with frustrated American consortiums trying to get more going in Alberta.
It be great to see the Chi Coms pushed out of their play on Canadian Resources.

For sure we get more U.S. combat aircraft at our airshows....who hoo!

Last big airshow at Namao in Edmonton.....they had the F-117 up....B1-B,....Red Flag F-16's from Nellis.
2 F-15's from Alaska came in and sat parked with a police cordon which would not allow visitors to approach.
2 Ukrainian Mig 29's showed up too.....belching black smoke thru the sky's.

Israel sent a batch of F-16's to Maple Flag in 2005.....dang!!...I missed that : (

I imagine with tax cuts, and less govt. Things look very good in AB! I'll have to check out that airshow! Hopefully soon enough, you guys will have a few new fighter jets to show off :-)

I think everyone has to calm down. This is not a conservative win.

I mused to Fan Tan that this was a Liberal equivelant of Kim Campbell's meltdown.

It isn't even near that. Harper has to govern with Bloc support.

He can't count on that by half.

This minority govt is even more unstable than the last one.

Harper can't turn around in the bath tub without slipping on the soap and Dusceppe will attempt to blackmail him to serve a separtist agenda.

Meanwhile the NDP gained seats and have the Liberals by the nads.

I don't know why everyone is celebrating.

Harper can't pursue any of his domestic and foreign policy items without saying 'pretty please'

The answer will be no.

If Harper can't deliver on softwood lumber and cattle he will be out before he gets a chance to dry clean his suit.

This government will be dead in the water with its first budget.

This election result is weak, weak, weak.

With more power to the provincial govts and a lesser federal govt (usually the stance of a conservative govt), wouldn't that make Quebec less likely to want to separate?

You see, I live in San Francisco. If ONE conservative Republican got on the board here I would celebrate.

To us in the USA, Canada has been a nation of San Franciscans. Understand? Now the PM will be a conservative and yes, he doesn't have a majority, but that's okay. One big win means to me there are more wins to come.

It would be as if the Mayor of SF was a conservative pro-traditional marriage Republican. Yes, he would still deal with the commies on the Board of Stupidvisors, but that one win is still a LOT to celebrate.

So, we're celebrating! Please don't rain on our parade.

"US Democratic Party = in between Labour Party and National Party"

Huh???

How 'bout, US Democratic Party = in between Labour Party and Progressive Coalition, Green Party, Alliance?

As in, between mid-left to WAY far left!

I'd like to say that I care about your election because you're our closest neighbor, and because I've been in Canada enough to realize what a beautiful place it is.

The first time was up in Ontario around Red Lake, where I first saw the Northern Lights, ate fried pike, and discovered how tall a moose really is up close.
