An audio recording appeared today on a radical Islamist Web site, featuring what appeared to be Osama bin Laden's top deputy, Ayman al Zawahari, discussing the writings of a Muslim poet.
The tape surfaced a week after a U.S. airstrike in Pakistan that killed a top al Qaeda bomb maker and chemical weapons expert, but the speaker does not mention the incident. Analysts say that's potentially revealing because it calls into question Al Qaeda's ability to respond quickly in its propaganda war.
The tape appears to be an old recording, as it refers to the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan in October 2001, and moarns members of al Qaeda who were killed during that operation.

There is a shred now. Why do you think they put out a two-year old audio tape of Zawahiri reciting poetry, with no visuals and no dates or current day events mentioned. Could it be because he is dead? Just maybe? Wanna bet he's dead?
Two Zawahiri tapes and one OBL tape in less than ten days. Of course this should be taken seriously. Especially in conjunction with Iran's actions this week.

I don't know why they released it. Nor do you. And presenting your opinion as fact doesn't change the fact that it's just an opinion.
Personally, I find your theory to be the least likely and most implausible. I believe it's more likely these recent tapes -- three in all from Zawahiri, dating back to September -- were released for the purpose of triggering a large-scale attack. Just as the last three series' of Zawahiri recordered messages were... and did.
Just my opinion. We'll find out soon enough.

I would say that men such as OBL, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, Mohammed Atta, etc. are/were particularly bright. Evil and monstrous, of course. But highly intelligent, also.
I just don't believe we do ourselves any good in assuming they're all morons.
