Checking the pulse on Moore's 'Sicko'
'Fahrenheit' helmer keeping mum about next docu
By IAN MOHR
Where in the world is Michael Moore? This time last year, word was that the incendiary auteur behind "Fahrenheit 9/11" had the country's top pharmaceutical companies looking over their shoulders in anticipation of "Sicko," his look at the American healthcare industry.
But since then, the usually outsized Moore has been mum on "Sicko's" health.
Calls to Moore and his production company's PR rep went unreturned.
His Website, michaelmoore.com, last mentioned "Sicko" on Dec. 23, 2004, linking to a L.A. Times report that the drug companies were up in arms over the pic.
Moore's tactic of sauntering into major corporations and confronting execs no doubt became more difficult after "Fahrenheit 9/11" made him the docu biz's most famous gadfly.
But reports have said that Moore is using hidden cameras in doctors' offices to expose corruption within the drug biz. And a person close to the project says the helmer was most recently in Miami shooting at a weight-loss clinic.
Bob and Harvey Weinstein are expecting big things from the film. According to an early draft of the Weinstein Co.'s business plan, generated to drum up investment in the company, the brothers plan to roll out "Sicko" in September, and they anticipate about $40 million in domestic B.O.
The book "Do as I say" had a chapter on Michael Moore that absolutely destroyed him.
Have they checked everywhere?
Maybe "just about everyone", but there are some that are also wary of "a pill for everything", such as myself. But it takes eating right and exercising, which is difficult for "just about everyone", in this day and age.
It might be, if it wasn't Moore making it.
A fat bastard like MM, who is at a far greater risk of stroke, heart disease, diabetes and other diseases, should know better than to piss on the pharmaceutical community.
Anyone want to bet that his medicine cabinet looks like a CVC pharmacy pick-up counter?
When I see a pharm rep every time I go to the docs (it wasn't always like that) and I have to wait I am very skeptical when there is a pill for everything. Getting on some pills is permanent when it shouldn't be.
Sorry, you could not pay me to watch a Moore film.
The cameras follow this pant load around as he slowly destroys himself with food.
Illegal Surveillance and invasion of privacy?
But there IS corruption in big pharm! Doctors get perks for prescribing certain drugs the reps push. A DR. admitted this to me once.
Doctors have to eat, too.
So?
Moore now resides in the incredibly wealthy, whitebread community called Torch Lake, MI.
No one is going to prescribe the wrong medicine for a box of golf balls. All else being equal, if I get a perk for prescribing one NSAID over another, who cares?
