Most conservatives are religious. But there is a small minority of non-religious individuals, who were attracted to the conservative movement because they were influenced by secular movements such as Ayn Rand's objectivism.
Should atheists be welcomed into the conservative movement? Do atheists make good conservatives?
So, you are saying that atheists have no morals or ethics?
No Core system of values or beliefs?
Really?
Why aren't all atheists in prison?
>>Religion is not the only value system......I don't derive these morals from a faith in god but from an application of reason.<<
Religion is not the only value system, but it is the MAIN value system for most people in America and the world.
Most people are not educated enough to be able to engage in the abstract high level reasoning, needed to formulate a set of secular moral values which to live under.
Simple religious teachings work for most people.
Not only aren't all atheist in prison, but atheists are probably the most under-represented group in prison.
Besides, Libertarians are just Anarchists who bathe.
But, how could that be? They have no morals, no values! Ask Mr. Vanity!
Your worth it and more
You don't have to be something for me to show you kindness, love, and respect. I hope all goes well for you.
God loves you my friend (I am sure others have already said this) and may you find him.
:P
Max Eastman and Sydney Hook as well.
Groupthink.
Not a fair analysis.
As an attorney, I have seen a whole lot of criminal defendants "get religion" while standing before the judge at sentencing.
You can not be an atheist, a conservative AND a deep thinker.
You only get to choose two of the above.
And what would lead you to believe God brought this particular person forward?
Any reliable statistics on how many atheists are in prison?
That's a very simplistic answer to quite a complicated question. I would expect something more thoughtful from an avowed atheist.
"As an attorney, I have seen a whole lot of criminal defendants "get religion" while standing before the judge at sentencing."
LOL - I just figured God lived in prison since so many people find Him there.
Maybe...but probably not.....not a pure atheist.
For a broad view of how it came about look HERE
I don't necessarily endorse the source but the history seems pretty even-handed. I'm a conservative who embraces agnosticism, evolution and the right of those who believe differently than me to worship in their own fashion. I expect my personal beliefs to be respected. I fear a Christian theocratic totalitarianism ("Congress shall make no law...") as much as I fear any sort of Utopian totalitarianism of the Marxist or National Socialist variety. In other words, I believe in the Constitution and in the society the Founders meant to establish.
I'm not a conservative because I don't follow someone else's definition of an orthodox religion? Those are real fighting words. Go get some learnin' son.
>>So, you are saying that atheists have no morals or ethics?<<
Some do. But our society works well if atheists remain a small minority. If they become a majority in society, G-d help us. We will have a repeat of the Jacobin Revolution in France.
>>Why aren't all atheists in prison?<<
Most atheists are well educated, and middle-class or better. They come from the socio-economic group least likely to go to prison.
