I feel the same. He's great, and when I first discovered him I was excited, but he can become wearing.I don't like the term "no soul",because I think it's misused-a lot of jazz guitarists might be said to have "no soul",but I could listen to and "feel" tham all day long. And again I love prog, which is supposedly so soulless. Maybe it is-if it is,I guess it's supposed to be-it still reaches me,and I have to admit,I LIKE flashy fingered virtuosity on any instrument-I'm so impressed that people can do what they do on them, and some can make it seem like an extension of their very selves.

Y'all have all mentioned Robin Trower and Ten Years After that I'm currently acquiring some of their music to get an idea of what you mean. I'm trying to remember all the mentions made that I'm not familiar with on this thread.

PS-I just listened to to "I'd Love To Change The World"-I've heard that song! I like the guitar in it-kind of delicate.

While Fade to Black and Sanitarium have great solos, for balls ass metal solos I would have to say that Frayed Ends of Sanity, Dyers Eve, and Struggle Within are at the very top.

And though he rarely solos, and his solos are nothing special, and the thread is about solos, without question, the undisputed king of down picking is James Hetfield.

"Ummm......take it from a major Clapton fan and rock guitarist since 1968.......VERY much subject to argument, my friend. Clapton has done some stellar work, no doubt, but his solo in "Crossroads" was.....ummm......let's just say .....NOT his best work. Doesn't belong anywhere near such a list."

Sorry about your hearing. Does your amp go to 11? Maybe you should turn it down.

Hendrix's solo on the Warner live double album version of "Hear My Train a Comin'" is, without question, the most incredible solo in the history of rocknroll.

Which be dat? More of a reference pls.

Recorded at the Berkeley Community Theater May 30, 1970.

You can download a high quaility mp3 from allofmp3.com for a good price. It's on the Ultimate Live Collection number 4.

"Castles Made of Sand" is a great song. I also like "Up From the Skies" and "Wait Until Tomorrow." My Hendrix CD collection is sadly lacking, I'll have to get those Family Editions.

Do I see a silhouette of somebody pointing something from a tree ?
Click bang, what a hang, your daddy just shot poor me
And I hear you say, as I fade away...
We don’t have to wait till tomorrow

Chris Wood and Mike Finnegan play with Hendrix on Ladyland. Organ and flute. You just have to listen to "Voodoo Child", the 17 minute song. Hendrix makes up the words as he goes along. It is a big jam session with Hendrix' friends clapping in the background. Some of his finest playing is on this song, but with just small bursts at a time. The organ and the guitar talk to and answer each other. Hard to find a better jam.

Yeah, the Chantays. I've got a CD "Guitar Classics of the '60's with all the songs you mentioned and Pipeline on it. I listen to it all the time. Stevie Ray plays on Pipeline.
