Is it wrong for me to wish someone imposes their own "justice" on these 2 monsters, who raped a 6 year old girl until she was 10, and finds themself before another judge who rules that they acted because the law did not protect them, as it is supposed to by the Constitution... case dismissed?
Cashman's ruling gives pedophiles a pass in saying that their crimes aren't terribly serious, and nothing REALLY bad will happen to them should they find themselves in his courtroom. He may has well have put out a welcome mat to pedophiles on the Vermont border.
I don't know the answer to that. Hoever, it's this kind of situation that drove me to write my novel, THE JUSTICE COOPERATIVE (see my tag line). I'm not advocating that kind of "justice." I wrote the novel as a cautionary tale. If the official justice system fails to deliver justice (and this case is a prime example of the failure of the justice system), we're going to see people "imposing their own justice." Maybe something like the Justice Cooperative will even come into existence. I'm not keen on the idea but it would be better than living with the current failure of the justice system.
Not as long as you include the damned Nazgul sitting in judgement in that "justice"....
