Pat Robertson, who every so often says something really outrageous just to get attention, has apologized for saying Ariel Sharon's stroke was God's retribution for giving up the Gaza strip. He wrote a letter to Ariel Sharon's son. In part, he said: "My zeal, my love of Israel, and my concern for the future safety of your nation led me to make remarks which I can now view in retrospect as inappropriate and insensitive in light of a national grief experienced because of your father's illness. I ask your forgiveness and the forgiveness of the people of Israel for saying what was clearly insensitive at the time." That's an understatement.
But the real story here is how much attention is paid to Pat Robertson when he says the things that he does. The agenda is clear: to paint every Republican and conservative as a right-wing extremist nutcase. So now Pat Robertson has apologized...and he'll go back to his TV show. Sometime down the line he'll say something outrageous, and it will be the top story on CNN again.
The media really is becoming quite predictable.
I'm a social con (and no we aren't all wacky fire and brimstone Christians) and I think Pat is a discredit to the conservative cause.
At least he doesn't imply that God has a raging erection.
Pat should know that God doesn't whisper in his ear just because he's Pat Robertson.
Unless he actually believes he's a prophet.
Actually, it's not the truth.
Did you notice Mr. Condemnation's tagline? Talk about hypocrisy...
Everything that happens in the world is G-D's will. Whether it is good or bad it has been approved by the Almighty.
Yeah, I thought it was funny.
Well, I disagree.
And there you go. :0)
It is, more often than not, the truth.
But why do we lynch this guy for stepping outta bound once in a while? Ok, he said something stupid, but meanwhile everyone else gets a break.
Falwell and he can build a thousand churches, but the moment they misspeak they're whipping boys for the "far right" and vilified like demons. Did everyone call the Pope a kook for kissing the Koran?
The problem isn't so much Pat "going about it the wrong way," but the perception or respresentation that Robertson's views are anyone else's but his own, and his weaving politics and religion together which is always bound ruffle feathers.
Wrong.
"That they may be one, as the Father and I are One."
The ecumenism of John Paul II is the ecumenism of the Catholic Church. Benedict XVI is taking dialogue even further than JPII did.
Pat was way out of line with his original comment. He should apologize...and I don't think it was insincere.
again?
" "The ecumenism of John Paul II is the ecumenism of the Catholic Church. Benedict XVI is taking dialogue even further than JPII did.
Are you implying a One World Religion based upon merely worshipping "One God" the primary objective of the RCC and context for the first quote?
Ecumenism may be the goal of the RCC, but THE point is, clearly not of Jesus Christ.
Pat Robertson's statement was half truth half lie.
Pat apologized because it hit him in the pocket, and no phoney evangelist can live without that precious dough flowing in.
Ecumenism may be the goal of the RCC, but THE point is, clearly not of Jesus Christ.
The quote is from Jesus Christ. You think it's His intention that different people have different beliefs about Him? Or no belief in Him at all?
"Belief" in what context?
That He was a great philosopher and historical figure? OR that He was God for whom "takes away the sins of the world"?
I still haven't an answer on just how the RCC's advocation of ecumenism glorifies the goal of Jesus Christ.
Robertson sounds like the character in ( I believe) one of Twains stories who said, "Years ago I made a fool of myself. Looking back over the years, I must admit that the work has held up very well"
I agree with yoiu and think that these phony guys grabbing the money like Robertson etc. should be held accountable he only apologizes when money is involved. Why doesn't this guy find a rest home for hisself?
