Sides-to-middling a sheet is when the middle of the sheet is worn out through use, you use your seam ripper and rip it straight down the middle (lengthwise), rip or trim off the hems on the sides, flip the two halves, sew the middle together, and re-hem the sides. Then the worn parts of the sheet are on the edges and you have nice strong fabric in the middle. It works best on a full or larger bed, since if it's a single the center seam is kinda irritating.
Since zig-zag sewing machines came in, it's much easier to do! (and at the price for king sheets these days, I'll do it, at least on the most expensive ones. It doesn't show when the bed's made up.)

Thus far this is what we have
4:17: Judge Lewis begins his statement by discussing Justice Marshall's decision to resign from the Court. Judge Rehnquist asked Justice Marshall to stay. Justice Marshall said Rehnquist was the best chief that Marshall had served under. Judge Lewis was stunned to learn this.
Judge Lewis acknowledges that he sits on the "far left" of the panel of judges this afternoon. He points out that there were times in which he did not agree - Lewis is unapologetically pro-choice, and a civil rights activist. He is involved in endeavors that would make one wonder his decision to testify. But having worked with Alito he respects his intellectual honesty.
4:16: Judge Lewis, the last but not least member of the panel, gets his turn.

I hate it when liberals say they're interested in "human rights."
They want to kill babies, keep people under brutal dictators, and support terrorists.
Nonetheless, Lewis' endorsement of Alito's impartiality will be helpful. He is calling Alito "intellectually honest."
Wish the RATS on the committee would try a little of that.....

But the Clintons yukking it up on the front pages didn't help the Dems come election time.

It doesn't get any better than a died-in-the-wool liberal activist giving a glowing recommendation that we're hearing from Timothy Lewis!
Raise your glasses in a toast! Oh, wait... Kennedy has been toasting since breakfast.

Gibbons emphasizes that he is not supporting Alito because of the current administration, in fact, his firm opposes the administration in some of the Guantanamo cases. Rather, he things Alito will give the detainee cases careful and thoughtful consideration, which is more than he can say for the Congress of the United States. ROFL!!
Ah, see? The bridges between conservatism and Liberalism are not so vast there can't be middle ground. ;-) We both have a low opinion of Congress and a high opinion of Judge Alito.

4:21: Judge Lewis is saying that Judge Alito did not come to conference with an ideological bent. Judge Lewis has no hesitation commending his commitment to principles.
Finally, when they did disagree, it was always respectful - Lewis think this is an important facet of appellate judging.
