Ancient Harbors Rise Again
ScienceNOW Daily News ^ | 9 January 2006 | By Michael Balter

From about 3000 B.C.E., boats anchored in natural coves and bays. At Sidon, for example, the team found crustaceans typical of brackish lagoons in the cores, indicating that the bays were fairly sheltered. By about 1200 B.C.E., the Phoenicians began building artificial harbors, a period which corresponds to other archaeological evidence that ship traffic was increasing at that time. After the invention of concrete by the Romans around 300 B.C.E., sophisticated harbor engineering became possible, and the ports were at their height during the subsequent Greco-Roman and Byzantine periods, from 332 B.C.E. to about 1000 C.E. After that time, Tyre and Sidon rapidly declined in importance, and the harbors were apparently abandoned: The coring shows that the beach began to become exposed, and the lagoon species of crustaceans gave way to species typical of unsheltered coastlines and open seas.

Sorry, just couldn't get past the initial use of "B.C.E." and "C.E.".

This may help you get past it.

B.C.E = Before Christian Era
C.E. = Christian Era.

Not really. Actually CE stands for "Common Era" and BCE stands for "Before the common era".

I'm kinda kin to B.C. and A.D., thank you.

This PC nonsense is ridiculous.

So, I can assume from reading this article that sea levels rose naturally. This was 3000 years ago, well before the first Bush terrorized the planet. Will some stupid leftist DUmmie lurker please explain to me why the sea levels rose then and it was a not man made occurrence.

Oh I know what 'they' say. It's what I say that matters. BTW what marks the so called 'Common Era' and if it's so common how come it's only happened once? ;-) Also, check out wikipedia's entry on it.

Good point, and I agree, there's absolutely nothing "common" about Christ!

But I think we all know 'zactly what's behind these seemingly innocuous attempts at secularizing everything. Before you know it, ALL text books and articles will change their references accordingly.

For example, many of the current textbooks already blame the US for everything "bad" in recent history (and, as we know, everything is "bad" to these people).

Heck, I'm a white, Christian, man ... according to many, those three characteristics damn me for everything "bad" that has ever occurred since 0001 "C.E." ... ooops, see, now they've done it.

Well if they keep pushing us, they can re-write the text books again, cause something really 'bad' is gonna happen, cause I'm bad to the bone. bbbbbaad!

Oh, I am now way off target. What was this thread about again? Ancient Harbors rising again. Stick a ship in it, put them to good use.
