So did I. But that was back in the late 1950s. We don't do that any more. That might be stupid, but I also don't want the local young Crips passing guns in the parking lot of the High School near me.

Common sense, I guess, has to prevail.

I used to shoot .22 target rifle at a range IN the High School.

Those were the good old days. I took my shotgun to school when I was in HS for my Outdoor Education (PE) class. We reloaded shotgun shells (12 gauge) in class as one of the units in the curriculum. As a class we reloaded probably a couple of thousand rounds (I probably did a few hundred of them myself).

There are still several small bore clubs located at H.S. around the country, including one in Carson City, NV.
