Maybe there's more to this story, but looks to me as if this is simply hysteria.
Except that it's against the law to have a gun on school property.
I don't know. I have heard some absurd situations like someone suspended for a butter knife on the floor of their car after their family hadmoved the weekend before. That IS absurd.
I don't want unsupervised teens with a gun around my kid. It seems like a clear violation of school policy to me.
From the headline, I thought that they had been shooting at each other.
Like it or not, it seems to me that everybody knows that you can't take firearms to school. It may or may not be a stupid law, but there it is.
Besides, what if this was a case of some gangbangers passing firearms in the parking lot? We'd be less upset by an arrest in that case.
If you have kids in school, do make sure they know that it's illegal to take firearms to school, even in the car trunk.
Every educrat is a thug.
Political correctness and zero tolerance means that you treat a kid with a .22 rifle in his trunk the same as a Crips banger with a Tec-9 in the hallway.
Arthalion wrote No, the right to bear arms doesn't extend to minors.
yankeegirl wrote it Seems prudent to restrict firearms in some places.
not having that right extend to minors has got minors murdered. even minors have the inalienable right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness and if they have the inalienable right to life they have the right to defend their life by any means necessary click the link

Things sure have changed since I was in HS. If you owned a truck, you had a gunrack in it. If you drove a car, there was the trunk.
BLL: simply hysteria.
that be a felony in NY (to my recollection)
I saw a taxidermy teacher do it 25 yrs ago - he was crapping his pants THEN
Stupid move on the kids part, but the law is the law, and in this case I agree with the school for calling LE and reporting it.
I graduated from a Houston HS in 67. At that time we would trade shotguns and rifles in the school parking lot every Friday afternoon in the fall. Even a couple of teachers were in on it. What you needed depended on what you were hunting that weekend. OH and not one person in our 3 grade 2200 member HS got shot while I was there. Times change ... sigh ..............
To the people who think the kids made a mistake; Your correct.
To the people who think 'Zero Tolerance' is a good thing; You might be a Liberal.
To people that are frightened of their children being around guns; Teach them, at an early age, about gun safety.
zero tolerance at school
----I have to agree on this. You cannot descriminate whether this kid is responsible enough to handle a gun or whether this kid is not. School parking lots are NO place for guns if that is the schools policy. I do not agree with a lot of the gun laws, but this one seems appropriate and I dont want a gun in the hands of a kid around my child.
It is a little bit of hysteria, but on the other hand in today's environment it was stupidity on the part of the students. If they both have cars there have to be plenty of other places they could have arranged to make this exchange without running afoul of the authorities.
Kids doing dumb things.
Zero Tolerance = Zero Thought Required
Ovid, NY population under 3,000. Out in the hinterland.
Interesting...
first of all, the kids HAD TO HAVE known the rules. rules may be stupid, but they should be followed by minors if possible.
Too many things have happened when one kind brings a gun to school and starts shooting. It might be paranoid, but it's justified. Do the transfer off of school grounds.
Secondly, I know the kids shouldn't have been arrested. Sure the rules be the rules, and they broke them, but it wasn't a hostile situation.
Common sense is COMPLETELY lacking by ALL sides on this case.....
So much queerness these days. I remeber when I was in High School I carried my .22 rifle with me all over the place. One time a police officer was searching my car, asked me about my rifle; I said I live on a farm (which I did) He shrugged.
I also remember rifles and shot guns on the gun racks of other students. What is wrong with our country today?
