ah, so she wants the rest of the world to base their behavior on her personal bitterness.
Good move!
She might spare some of her bile for the feminists who insisted that no-fault divorce and free love would be a boon for women.
This climate of easy divorce is good for lowlifes only and hell for everyone else on so many levels.
What liberal woman doesn't?
Hekker's husband presented her with divorce papers on their 40th wedding anniversary and left her for a younger woman. The divorce left her facing an uncertain financial future, bereft of income and - after spending her adult life bringing up five children -
No, I dont imagine she does. The change in divorce laws to no fault have left men and women hanging. This woman was entitled to support by her two timing husband.
One of her last statements should be taken to heart of all women. She says that women need to learn how to take care of themselves and be prepared for the worst.
I am a stay at home mom, and I agree with that statement. That is why I went to college, and I worked before I had children. My children are now in school full-time, and I am trying to figure out some sort of work to do while they are in school.
It's not just divorce you have to worry about. Men can die young. My brother died last year at 48. His wife is well-prepared to handle living on her own. Her kids are grown, and she has a great job.
My mother-in-law is in her 70s, and divorced. She lives off of social security, and has no other sorce of income. She just fell and broke her hip. I don't know what will happen to her if she can't live on her own. She had plenty of time to get a career going since she divorced in her 40s, but she never did.
I think we'd all be surprised how often personal tragedy (like in this example) or personal failure fuels a total political worldview.
yep[....all was well when she was married. Then hubby left and now it's everyone elses fault. Poor her.

And considering today's reality with a high divorce rate and the fact that many women may never marry, it is also a good idea.
Well even if you plan on being a wife and mother full time, you definately should get some sort of skills or training to provide if you need to. As this article says, way down near the bottom... its not only if your husband should leave.. but he could also die.
I know I would want my daughters to have skills that allowed them earn income.. even if they planned on becoming a full time housewife.
my heart goes out for her. It may be even worse than staying virgin spinster for life. At least then she wouldn't feel so foolish for investing herself in her marriage, which turned out to be nothing in the end.
Maureen Dowd is the same way. It's just pitiful to watch.
cogent bunny!
**ah, so she wants the rest of the world to base their behavior on her personal bitterness. Good move!**
Your deep thought and intellegence underwhelms me, flashbunny. Is that why they call you flash bunny? : )
Why? Maybe she just wants to earn some money?
"the judge in her divorce case suggested that - at 67 - she go for job training"
I think that she has much better chance to make money by writting a book than after some silly "job training" for 67 year old housewives!
Women must be prepared for the real world...HER HUSBAND LEFT HER FOR A YOUNGER WOMAN, you have no compassion for her?
