(IsraelNN.com) The legal counsel of the Vatican in Israel, the priest David Jaeger, said today that Jerusalem is too important of an "issue" to be left to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Jaeger further expressed criticism of Israeli policy regarding holy sites in the country.

"The issue of Jerusalem," the representative of the Roman Catholic Church said, "is to important to leave in the hands of the Israelis and the Palestinians."

The Catholic Church has been making efforts to obtain historical sites in Jerusalem of late, but without public successes.

And all Roman Catholic means is that a specific rite is used, namely, the Roman rite of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church itself is just a Catholic church, and a common misconception is to put Roman in front of it, but all Roman is would be a rite, just like Armenian, Assyrian, etc.

Let us take an example from The Most High and stop putting so much importance on a place and more importance on Him who created all places.

You are right. IMO, the Israeli people would give up the West Bank in return for a real peace, because a real peace would give them access to where Abraham and Sarah are buried. Any "peace" that would deny them that access, as the Moslems denied it before, would not be much of a real peace, now would it?

Head-spinning documentation of how Vatican immunity shielded Nazi war criminals from just punishment--and unwittingly aided the Communist cause. Aarons is an Australian expert on Nazi fugitives; Loftus (The Belarus Secret, 1982) is the former chief prosecutor of the Justice Department's Nazi War Crimes Unit. Vatican accommodation of Nazi escapees is well known. Less known is that by 1944 Soviet intelligence had penetrated German intelligence and was using the Vatican, which was smuggling tens of thousands of Nazis to Argentina and elsewhere via diplomatic immunity, to infiltrate the Nazi escapees with large cadres of Communist spies. Similarly, Red spies joined the German scientists being swept off to Britain and America immediately after the war (without standing trial for war crimes); thereafter, the Soviets were privy to atomic secrets firsthand. Much of this activity, according to the authors, sprang from an episode in which Papal Nuncio Eugenio Pacelli (later Pope Pius XII) was attacked by Communists in Munich on May Day 1919 and became a fervent, lifelong anti-Communist. Thus came about his ties with the Nazis, who during the Nazi occupation of Italy threatened the Vatican's very survival. Referring to the infiltration of British intelligence at its top levels by Soviet spies, Aarons and Loftus proclaim that ``behind the Nazis were the Vatican, behind the Vatican were the British, behind the British were the Communists.'' Of course, in the Greek, Mat. 16 doesn't say what you want it to say. The Lord makes a distinction between Petros (a small stone, a piece of a stone) and Petra (a large rock). Besides which, the Scriptures are clear as to who the Rock on whom we are built is:

[God] is the Rock; His work is perfect. For all His ways are just, a God of faithfulness, and without evil; just and upright is He.
(Deuteronomy 32:4)

But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked. You grew fat, thick, and satisfied. Then he forsook God who made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

When the Bible calls God our Rock literally dozens of times (the above is but a sample) and calls Kefa (Peter) a rock but once, the correct understanding is clear: The true Church is built not upon Kefa or his supposed successors (which would have to be chosen by laying on of hands, not election by the cardinals in any case, as another poster pointed out), but upon Yeshua the Messiah, God Incarnate, the sole Rock of our Salvation.
