Vatican Says Jerusalem "Issue" is Too Important to Leave to Israel, PA 19:15 Jan 03, '06 / 3 Tevet 5766

(IsraelNN.com) The legal counsel of the Vatican in Israel, the priest David Jaeger, said today that Jerusalem is too important of an "issue" to be left to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Jaeger further expressed criticism of Israeli policy regarding holy sites in the country.

"The issue of Jerusalem," the representative of the Roman Catholic Church said, "is to important to leave in the hands of the Israelis and the Palestinians."

The Catholic Church has been making efforts to obtain historical sites in Jerusalem of late, but without public successes.

This is akin to Reuters printing, "Bush Administration says we are losing in Iraq" and then going on to recount the musings of a low-level clerk in the pentagon.

You're basing this on your own religious beliefs right?

Actually, as far as I know, the Catholic Church takes no position on what you speak of, not as it needs to. The end of time, and the events that will transpire it are not to be checked off like a laundry list, only the father knows how it will all transpire. As far as the Catholic Church goes, we are the only church to trace apostolic succession to our lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Exactly! Someone should remind the Catholic Church that the Christian Holy sites in Jerusalem 'belong' to ALL CHRISTIANS..not just the Vatican..(rolling eyes). Frankly, I don't want the Palestinians in charge of one single Christian Holy site!!

Says Who? The Christian Holy Sites in and around Jerusalem were established, built and maintained for nearly 2 millenia by the Roman Catholic Church and the Ortthodox Churches. We had over 1100 years of guarding these holy sites before there ever was a Christian Church apart from Rome and Constantinople.

Some trust in chariots, some in horses but those that Trust in Him -
That is always where He wanted us positionally - just trusting in Him.
His Word says ALL are going to come up against Israel.
As hard as this is to believe...that is what His Word says.

He is. He is the Vatican representative and speaks for the Vatican under understood laws of Agency.

The Vatican can- and I hope does- refute him.

"As far as the Catholic Church goes, we are the only church to trace apostolic succession to our lord and savior Jesus Christ."

How can it be called "succession" when the next Pope is elected by a bunch of Cardinals from elsewhere after the Pope dies?

Succession would be the passing away Pope laying his hands on or otherwise selecting and/or annointing a successor.

Ping - this could cause a real rhubarb.

As far as I know, when Israel controlled towns where Christian holy places were located (such as Bethlehem), no Christian places were trashed. It was when the Philistine Authority gained control that places were trashed. As far as I know, Israel has always permitted the different Christian communities to administer their holy places themselves and stays out of ecclesiastical matters, so I'm not sure just what the hangup is for Jaeger. I doubt that any sane person in the Vatican would want Christian places under the control/authority of the Philistines.

Could this be a person in the Vatican trying to throw a monkey wrench into Pope Benedict's policies? It wouldn't be the first time some lower-level Vatican bureaucrat caused embarrassment.

Excuse me but the Christian Church began long before the "Roman Catholic Church". The RC Church was unheard of by the first and second century Christians.

Because every pope that is selected is the one that God wants selected, that's why they conclave, they wait for the Holy Spirit to fill them with the spirit so they can make the choice the Lord wants.

There is zero biblical evidence of such nonsense...

I think all the Christian denomination in the end are going to ALL in ERROR come up against Israel in one way or another, outright, for all to see, or secretly - many ways. They will all fall away and become apostate. I think any Christian in these End Times that I believe we are in will be forced out of their churches one way or another because of their stand they will take for Israel.

I'm not doing this with you. The Roman Catholic Church was established on earth by Jesus Christ and that's that.

And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven.
