World Terrorism : Weapons of Disruption Onging...

Weapons of Disruption

C 2006 Frederick J. Cowie, Ph.D.

Whereas we have no masses, it certainly would be seriously challenging to deliver a "weapon of mass destruction" in the vast majority of geographical areas in the American West, as well as in many areas in the East and South. For instance, Montana is approximately the size of Germany, yet the population hovers only around a million (we have one representative in the House). There is no "metropolitan" area anywhere around, though Spokane is about three hundred miles away. Wyoming has more sheep than people. Utah has Salt Lake City and a few nearby populous areas. Nevada has two populated regional areas, Las Vegas and Reno. North and South Dakota have, well, a few folks here and there. Idaho folks are few and far between. I swear you can drive from San Antonio to El Paso without seeing a city policeman, because I've done it several times. Then there are Arizona, New Mexico, eastern California, inter alia. The point is we have a few population points, while the rest of the states are empty excepted for isolated small communities. Thus, out West we probably need to talk more about "weapons of disruption." (Some folks say "weapons of mass disruption," but we have no masses!)

You must ask yourself: What would I do if I were a terrorist (or a terrorism preparedness instructor) looking into the ramifications of launching a rural terrorism attack? Personally, I would concentrate on considering the consequences of disruption rather than mass destruction. Here are a few scenarios you might want consider when your local rural emergency management/response group gathers to discuss terrorism exercises.

1) Wildland Fire Incidents: Incendiary (mostly wildland) warfare has been used by military strategists for at least 2500 years, over a thousand years before the use of gunpowder. The western U.S. is disrupted, seriously disrupted, every year by wildland fires. Quite a few are started by humans, accidentally and purposefully. Starting dozens of major fires in a dozen western states could be a brilliant line of attack if militants wished to disrupt America. Thousands of security personnel could do nothing and the perpetrator/s would probably never be implicated, much less captured. Are you prepared?

2) Railroad Chemical Incidents: Many railroad main lines go through tunnels. A few strategically placed armor-piercing shells in a series of chlorine cars, along with appropriately staged derailments leaving the leaking cars in the tunnels, could shut down many main line routes in the West. Spin-off scenarios are numerous. Ready?

3) Flammable Liquid Incidents: Bridges are not easily brought down from below and approaches to bridge support structures are often highly visible and randomly monitored. However, on CNN we all have seen many tanker truck accidents involving burning hydrocarbons which have made bridge structures unusable. How hard would it be to have a few terrorists steal trucks and drive them (as opposed to hijacking planes and flying them) to strategic bridges over wide rivers or narrow gorges, ignite the gasoline (or diesel or crude), block the approaches with other incendiary or chemical releases, and make the structures extremely dangerous and impassible to highway traffic? Gotcha!

There are many variations of these themes. You probably have or can make up many more plausible, novel, and easily implemented rural-specific attack scenarios. Design exercises around them. If you want to stop terrorist events you must think like a terrorist and quit fighting last year's war!

Peace, thanks, Fred

If anyone has seen the news from TX and OK lately, fire does one hell of a job destroying everything in it's path. I've often pondered what a single individual could do starting fires when the conditions are like they've been lately. Add more people to the mix and the results would be devastating.

The Return of George Soros
AIM ^ | 2006-01-02 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 01/03/2006 8:57:36 AM PST by DTA

The Washington Post is in its scandal mode, hoping to hype the Jack
Abramoff affair into something that will threaten Republican control of
the House in the 2006 elections. Then the Democrats could initiate
impeachment proceedings against President Bush. While this process
unfolds, it would be wise for the public to consider the stories that
aren't being written or published. For example, whatever happened to
convicted inside trader and billionaire currency speculator George
Soros? He is the proponent of drug legalization who tried to buy the
presidency for the Democratic Party in 2004. His other causes include
needle exchanges for drug addicts, open borders, assisted suicide,
voting rights for felons, abortion and homosexual rights.

Soros makes Abramoff, who spent about $5 million on political
influence operations, look like a piker. Soros reportedly spent $400
million in 2004 on his network of foundations and non-profit groups.

I agree with you completely.

We followed the fires in Ca last year and these fires in TX and OK have the same trade marks, all leading to terrorist.

Last I heard they still had no idea who started these fires. Do you have any update? Please post if you do.
Thanks Much

Russia, Ukraine trade insults in gas dispute

On the TM, didn't we discuss reports of the infamous "white van" being spotted around the origins of some of the California fires? Memory a bit hazy here.

Several months ago, I got hooked on the Ukraine elections,
from what I read, Russia did not intend for the President
that won to be in.

His Orange revolt, has spread to other countries, who also want freedom from Russia.

The fuel crisis, is Russia's way of getting even with Ukraine for not being a supporter of Russia and daring to look toward the west, for a bright future.

I do not remember all the fine details, but there is a large Russian population in the Ukraine.

That is how Russia takes control of a country.

Just as the communists are doing with our open borders.

Yes, I have thought it out.

The Soviet Union, would force itself on a country, then it would move out the citizens who lived there and replace them
with Russians.

The move in of russians shows in every country that they take over, even Chechnya.

I once found a report of the man who had moved something like 110,000 citizens out of a country, by train, in a week,
he told what it was like to put it in action and then replace them with Russians.

The report was not new and tinfoil, it was in the old russian reports that were released.

I can't find it again, or haven't, as I forgot the country.
Lithiuiana? or close to it.

His report on getting the trains, choosing the people and loading them, read like the Halocaust and it must have felt like it too.

If you read on the russia supporting countries, you will always find a large russian population, dig deeper and you find that russia moved them there.

Now look at our Mexican border, they are moving a bunch of people in here to dilute our votes and that will support the communist branch of the democrat party.

Play with google, it will show you how active the communists are in mexico.

In the maoist website that is hidden at: etext.org
they did have a page on the importance of keeping the borders of America open, to move in voters, who would vote for their plans.

Also a page on how to recruit in America's prisons.

They taught me that the best celluite removers had lemon juice in them.

You could mix coffee grounds, lemon juice and Almond oil.

In the least, the grounds will take off a few layers of skin, the lemon juice will sting, so you will get up and jump around and the Almond oil is one of the best for the skin.

I did not say Freepers were fat. Only that it was a Freeper recipe.

Memory a bit hazy here.<<<<

Yes there was a van with 2 men in it, they would go a couple
miles, pull off at an off ramp and start a fire and go on
down the road.

They were working up and down the coast, as far as the San Francisco area, and out towards Palm Springs.

In effect, they had California on fire from the Mexican
border to San Francisco.

At one point, the police found an abandoned van in the desert, the Apple Valley area, or like that, but it turned
out to be too rusty to be the white van used in the fires.

I followed the reports on the CHP Traffic link:

http://cad.chp.ca.gov/

Wouldn't you know it is at this minute, showing a structure or grass fire as a report in Los Angeles county........

Since then, there have been other white vans and other fires all over the country.

I have it in my head that the use of the "white" van, is to represent purity, as in a virgin bride in white.

Therefore they are pure in the thoughts of the fires they are starting, to purify the land of the infidels.

I believe you are correct RR. The problem I see is mass white vans everywhere.

I was talking to my Navy son before he went on guard duty one night and said to him, "Be on the lookout for white vans." His reply was "Mom do you know how many white van the military owns, I am standing here looking at about 25 right now."

I got to thinking about it. Lots of work van come from the factory without decals.

For example Orkin will order thousands of white vans and put the decals on after they receive them. Then when they resale them a decal is nothing to take off.

Once again the terrorist have thought through their plan to blend in, to our disadvantage.

Never underestimate the enemy.

Was kind of wondering if some of these wildfires might not have been targets of opportunity. Not particularly symbolic, though, not a terrorism MO if there is nothing symbolic, in their eyes, anyway.

850koa.com radio said 2 minutes ago, that there is still a
slow down in the computer at DIA. (Denver International Airport)

As I understand it, the computer has failed, said they are
having to do the tickets manually.

Said the airplane flights are being held, when posssible to
do so.

Advised that you reach the airport early and they will do the best that they can.

Appears to have been down several hours.......

LOL, had the radio off, was enjoying a good hamburger, walked in the door and I said "Thank You"........

You know granny Codie is an expert on Russia. Do we ever hear her say anything about them?

TIN FOIL I said this in an earlier post this sets Russia up for the new old roman empire. Magog and Gog from the bible, could be? When we see them split up into 10 regions, look to the heavens.

More on the rich Russians and how they got rich...

How the 'Golden Horde' hoarded its way to top of Russia's rich list

From Clem Cecil in Moscow

ONE is in prison, one is a university professor and the favourite hobby of another is football. They are members of Russia's so-called Golden Horde, who have earned a place in Forbes' first list of Russia's 100 richest people.

Loathed by most Russians, [see this website's dossier on the origins of anti-Semitism] who see them as thieves of their natural resources, two thirds of the Golden Horde made their fortunes in minerals and enterprises inherited from the Soviet Union. The combined wealth of Russia's oligarchs is equivalent to one quarter of Russia's GDP; the combined net worth of all US billionaires equates to just 6 per cent of America's GDP.

According to Forbes, the glossy publications that track the lives of the world's most successful tycoons, no other city in the world boasts as many billionaires as Moscow.

The list, published today, ranks Mikhail Khodorkovsky as Russia's richest man, though he is now languishing in prison and unable to enjoy the fruits of his fortune of $15.2 billion (£8.9 billion).

Forbes chose to count his stake in Yukos, the Russian oil behemoth, even though the shares have been frozen by the state pending the outcome of his trial for fraud and theft. If he is found guilty he is likely to be stripped of his fortune.

Second in the Forbes list is Britain's favourite Russian, Roman Abramovich, whose $12.5 billion fortune has helped him bankroll Chelsea Football Club.

Russia's most eligible bachelor, according to Forbes, is Mikhail Prokhorov, number four on the list with a relatively modest $5.4 billion. Mr Prokhorov, 38, is head of the metals conglomerate Norilsk Nickel, which is based in Siberia. Although his fortune comes from the frozen ground of Russia's north, he is more likely to be seen at parties on the French Riviera.

Forbes has also calculated the cost of supporting the lifestyle of a Russian billionaire. "For the private yacht, airplane, property in Moscow, apartment in London, you are looking at a $161 million capital investment," said Pavel Khlebnikov, Editor of the Russian-language edition of Forbes.

"Operating expenses are about $9 million, including security services, a driver and maintaining a mistress."

Russia's oligarchs came to prominence in 1997 after the country's loans-for-shares auction in which entrepreneurs lent the cash-strapped Government money in exchange for shares in the biggest enterprises. The state could not afford to buy back the shares and was thus stripped of many of its most profitable businesses, largely in the field of natural resources.
In a man's world, one Russian woman stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the tycoons. She is Elena Baturina - wife of Yuri Luzhkov, the Mayor of Moscow - whose fortune comes from construction in the capital.

Mr Khlebnikov believes that many of Russia's billionaires are already becoming bored with their new-found wealth and high living and exhausted by the chaos of Russia's newly fledged market, and are turning their attention to more philosophical pursuits.

Thus, Vladimir Lisin, net worth $4.8 billion, a former steel mill mechanic who now owns a majority stake in the giant Novolipetsk steel mill, has retired from business to run a university course. He is probably the world's richest professor.

The secrets of Russia's billionaires are often murkier than their Western counterparts. Mr Khlebnikov believes that many businessmen overestimate their wealth.
