Unless Gov. Robert Ehrlich is prepared to take a leadership role and fight for the integrity of state driver's licenses -- even if House Speaker Michael Busch, Senate President Mike Miller and the rest of the Democratic bloc object -- Maryland residents could be in for a rude awakening in 2008. That is the year they will learn that their driver's licenses are no longer valid for such purposes as boarding an airplane or entering federal installations like the U.S. Naval Academy.

From the article:
all states will be required by 2008 to follow certain commonsense rules, such as verifying that the applicant for a driver's license is not an illegal alien and verifying that the documents a person presents when applying for a license are valid. Unbelievable that the liberal morons (who, by the way, think that they are morally and intellectually superior beings) would not want reasonable verification to get a drivers license. Yet they would take all handguns from law abiding citizens (when our previous, ultra-liberal governor, Glendenning started threatening this I went out and bought two Glocks - 30 days apart, of course) and will force stringent background checks on gun purchases.
I'm currently doing everything that I can to get out of Maryland. It will take a few years due to projects in the works but I will get out. Let the liberals drive the state under.

Maybe after Sourbrains and Mikulski get out of office it won't be so bad. Driver license is a state issue, the above are in the US Senate. The problem in Maryland is that both MD House of Representatives and the MD Senate are overwhelmingly Democrat. The Governor's veto can be overridden by a vote of just Democrats. Only greater balance in the State houses can help absent National Law.

Getting Sourbrains & Mikulski out of office will help the U.S. Senate, not the State Senate. If current Lt. Gov. Steele wins Sourbrains vacated seat, we are one step closer to a National ID.
Maybe if Ehrlich wins reelection, and a few more Republicans get elected, things will look up, but I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't Herndon, VIRGINIA recently allow a day labor facility to operate without checking the legal status of those who are there. They all probably have Maryland DL. At least the Minutemen are trying to curb the illegals there.
We all have got to stop the little leaks before they turn into a dam break.

Ellen Saurbrey (sp?) (conservative Republican) lost the governors election by something like 500 votes 6 years ago. I have no doubt WAY more than 500 illegal/dead people votes were cast for Glendenning (liberal). Of course the liberals will go down kicking and screaming trying to keep the "right to vote" for non-citizens.
Makes me wonder if I can walk in and apply for a license with no known address. Lets see Maryland find me after I get a ticket then. Then when I have enough tickets simply go get a license under another name. If I'm illegally here what proof could I possibly have for my name?

I really hate to see a certified ID (drivers license) requirement in Maryland. But it is the best way to separate the illegals in our country from US citizens. Unfortunately the Democrats will never let it become law.

It's not an identification card, and it's not a passport. You're right, it's not a passport, and it won't get you back in the country if you leave without a passport.
But it most definitely IS an ID card, because you can't cash a check, open a bank account, buy a gun, buy a car, or vote, at least in VA.
VA issues picture ID's to people who have had their license suspended or revoked.
If you are stoppped by LEO's and have no ID, you will be held until your identity is verified..at least, here in VA.
So, here in VA, are we a police state, or more secure?

Actually, it was 6,000 votes and that was the 1994 election. It was the opinion of many at the time, that the election was likely stolen in Baltimore City and probably Prince Georges County (the latter of which Glendening was the sitting County Executive). Given the overwhelming 'Rat makeup of the government in every branch, a thorough investigation was never going to occur.

You're probably right. Counterfit documents have become so prolific, I don't know how any state could afford the resources to check them for forgery. But I do want the public to realize the dems motive for their non-support. The only prayer they have of coming back into power is getting the massive minority vote and they'll sell the safety of our country down the river in a NY minute if it means gaining back power and they've given plenty of examples to point out to the public.

We have the same problem in NC I left Baltimore in 1960, just visit Mom now, love the state but it is a mess.

If you want a national ID card, issue one.A license IS a national ID card, based on the rules of reciprocity between states.
An over-the-road truckdriver has a special license which qualifies him to drive a certain type of vehicle, be it haz-mat, liquid, in excess of 40,000 llbs gross weight and trucks equipped with air-brakes.
Those licenses are recognized and accepted, nationally, and are required.
They are also forms of ID.

A driver's license is for driving, and that's it Thats why there is a Maryland Identification Card in the state of Maryland. If you don't want or can't get a driver's license you get an ID card. See: http://www.marylandmva.com/DriverServ/Apply/apply.htm for the difference and/or to apply.

...all states will be required by 2008 to follow certain commonsense rules... Hm. My instinct is to run screaming when people start talking about 'commonsense' rules. That's Brady Campaign-style talk....
